Job description

Responsible for sourcing goods, materials, and services to ensure that the company operational needs are met, taking into account price, quality and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply in line with global procurement vision & strategy. The job holder will take responsibility for a specific project or hold a larger remit in terms of purchasing responsibility, will have more technical knowledge, expertise, understanding and will be seen as a specialist within their function.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key responsibilities:

  • Support global/regional tendering teams by being the interface with suppliers for RFQ, facilitate technical alignment, adherence to specifications, cost and delivery targets
  • Balance both tactical executions with strategic initiatives necessary to drive cost-reduction projects
  • Maintain cost tracker at the sub-component level and communicate on potential cost and lead-time impacts to bidding team
  • Partner with Category Manager to achieve best possible value available from supply base to ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials to reduce risk or impact on business operations
  • Monitor market trends, supplier strategies and new potential suppliers
  • Review opportunities and negotiate to reduce costs using procurement best practice tools and methods
  • Provide technical/commercial assistance to Purchasing teams to improve product knowledge
  • Ensure that a consistent approach is used for all supplier relationships
  • Ensure compliance to all company guidelines and purchasing policies and procedures

Specific deliverables of the position:

  • Meeting stakeholder, and customer requirements and needs (cost, capacity, quality, and delivery)
  • Thorough understanding of tendering process & supplier landscape
  • Build, maintain, and manage supplier relationships and keep up good communications
  • Monitor & report any changes that may affect the supply and demand of needed products and materials to relevant stakeholders and Category Manager

The Individual

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum experience of 4 to 7 years or Diploma in Engineering with 5 to 8 years in Project Management, Procurement & Sourcing organization
  • Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems, and API standards along with experience in qualifying and auditing suppliers is essential. Experience with Continuous Improvement, Lean, or Six Sigma is a plus
  • Knowledge of Instrumentation & Fluid Sealing Systems is an added advantage
  • Support safe workplace cultures and compliance with Smiths EH&S
