  • Primary responsibility of this role is developing and designing new products that will penetrate the national and international markets.
  • It also requires to have a strong communication skills, drive, strong engineering acumen with enthusiasm in the product design arena. This position responsibilities also entails the identification of product adjacencies and identification and execution of cost savings initiatives through Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE).
  • Work in multiple programs/projects related to new product development (NPD) & Value analysis and value engineering (VAVE) supporting the business goals and Profit Plan objectives.
  • Work in a cross functional/ multi-disciplinary team in making technology/ engineering decisions required for project execution.
  • Own end to end mechanical product design and development including product conceptualization, detailing, design validation & testing of products.
  • Develop and understand product requirements, perform conceptual design and complete system/component modelling.
  • Design, validate and release systems, sub-systems and components independently in SAP.
  • Create CAD models and drawings of components/ Assemblies as per design standards.
  • Develop test plans in accordance with IEC/UL standards. Create test object requirements, plan for assembly and finalize test parameters & instrumentation. Responsible for conducting tests by ensuring deployment of standard practices. Assess test results, perform root cause analysis through test findings/failures and take corrective/preventive actions.
  • Understand project management process and tools required for planning, efforts estimation and other quality management processes as required for achieving the project deliverables.
  • Lead cost reduction projects from design to implementation; communicates expectations, plans, and requirements and coordinates all work within the scope of assigned projects.
  • Lead multiple projects/programs related to value analysis and value engineering (VAVE) through execution of these programs/projects in a timely manner.
  • Review reliability predictions, and Design Failure Modes and Effects analysis (FMEA) and structural/thermal/CFD results. Select engineering techniques to solve problems and make design recommendations.
  • Create Intellectual Property documents (IPs) around new product design concepts / ideas and drive innovation from ideation through to execution.
  • Perform a wide variety of engineering and technical tasks involving the application of engineering knowledge and the development of solutions to complex problems pertaining to products, materials, manufacturing processes, tests, and unique customer applications.
  • Prepare Design proposals and documentation required to define & control products. Participate in design reviews, both customer and internal as required

Qualifications

Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering or Master’s degree in Mechanical.
  • Min 3-5 years experience in mechanical product design & development / cost out through VAVE.
  • Sound technical knowledge and experience in design and development of Mechanical products like sheet metal products (preferred), cast/machined products, plastic products and relevant product standards such as UL, IEC, etc.
  • Experience must include hands on experience with design of products from concept to commercialization including and not limited to part detailing and designing, component and material selection, drawing creation, 3D modeling of parts/assemblies and 2D dimensioning and tolerance of parts, prototyping and validation
  • Should have proven track record of successful product launches, realized cost out and intellectual property generation.
  • Analytical skills must include understanding component design/ selection, stresses, fatigue life, component fits and establishing efficient/ergonomic methods of assembly, Design calculations.
  • Should be proficient with GD&T, Six Sigma, DFMEA, DFMA, UL certification, VAVE understanding, Should Costing, OnePart, Total cost Optimization, and Agile ProLaunch
  • Should have good knowledge on different product design tools environment like CAD, Solid works, SAP.

This exciting role offers opportunity to:

  • Overview: Incumbent will be responsible to work with cross functional global/local teams designing, Inverters, DCDC converter, onboard chargers. Developing and testing analog, digital, and power circuits including micro-processors/controllers, DSP’s, gate drivers, sensor interfaces, and SMPS & drive project complying with Eaton PROLaunch process. The senior engineer shall coordinate multi-disciplined engineering projects from design to implementation and serves as an expert resource for other engineers, identify opportunities in projects for disclosures/patent applications, technical paper publication & presentations in external bodies.
  • Performs design, modeling, simulation and implementation of analog, digital, and power circuit electronics including micro-processors/controllers, DSP’s, gate drivers, sensor interfaces, and SMPS for power conversion and protection. Performs design, simulation and implementation of different types of power electronic converters: Inverters, DCDC converters, On-board charger. Optimization studies of different converter topologies with respect to losses, device sizing and selection. System and subsystem level testing and reporting.
  • Close collaboration with global, eMobility embedded product development teams from initial conception through each of the design and development phases, up to and including certification and product launch with the support of model-based development processes, and utilization of automated testing, verification & validation tools. Evaluates the designs to meet requirements factoring in performance, size, cost, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Ability to Analyze and predict design performance using Simulation tools, Analytical Skills etc. Ensure Design Robustness through application of DFSS Methodology identifying and meeting CTQ’s, Ability to generate subsystem and system level P Diagrams, FMEA. Should be able to work on digital Communication protocols like CAN, RS232, SPI, I2C etc.
  • Contribute to design, modeling, simulation and implementation of power electronics, including analog and digital electronics, for power conversion and distribution technologies. Should drive usage of DFSS tools & preferably Green Belt Certified. Drives & track OTD, CTQ maturity, FPY & QOS on key growth programs
  • Should handle hardware system design including end to end product development involving complex analog & digital circuit design with 16/32 /64 bit microcontrollers based designs, development, launch support. Collaborate with mechanical, layout, and firmware engineers to successfully develop and validate the designs. Interface with Business Unit (BU) engineers to drive strong business cases for new commercial applications

Qualifications

Requirement:

  • Minimum 6 years of related engineering experience in power electronics designs and product development.
  • Extensive experience in hardware design and optimization of Power Converter for motor drives, DCDC Converters for Automotive applications.
  • Extensive experience in hardware system design, including end to end product development involving complex analog & digital circuit design with 16/32 /64 bit microcontroller based designs, development, verification & validation, qualification & certification testing, launch support. Including Subsystem Requirements Generation from top level system specifications.
  • Hands-on experience in sub-system and component level testing;
  • Engage and communicate with customers and external partners as needed
  • Modeling, simulation and analysis experience with tools like Matlab/Simulink, SPICE, PSIM tools
  • Hands-on experience with power converter development and testing and with control strategies of electric drives for traction
  • Should have hands on experience and strong knowledge of EMI / EMC standards and environmental compliances – IEC / SAE/ ISO / RoHS / REACH etc
  • Exposure / Hands on experience on Digital Communication protocols like CAN, RS232, SPI, I2C etc.
  • Should have strong knowledge of DFSS tools & preferably Green Belt Certified
  • Drive & track On time delivery, Design maturity, delivery quality (FPY) & QOS on key growth programs
  • Should have ability to mentor people on complex technical issues.
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skill
  • PCB layout experience and knowledge of PCB assembly process
  • Experience in designing electronics with thermal and reliability consideration.
  • Knowledge on ASIL and ASPICE certification
