The QTA for Sub Assembly station will lead the following in the Quality Function for India Loco Quality at Wabtec’s Marhowra Plant

  • Be responsible for all quality aspects of manufacturing of various sub assemblies eg. DB Grid, Radiator Assy., Rad Cab, Engine-Alternator Webbing etc.
  • Lead a team of Quality Inspectors undertaking quality inspections at the station

The role requires effective cross-functional stakeholder engagement for executing the above key responsibilities and meeting business goals set for the Quality Function.

  • Responsible for quality of all manufacturing assembly work pertaining to components/HLAs that are fitted on to locomotives built in Marhowra plant
  • Lead the team of Quality Inspectors of Sub Assembly station ensuring no escapes from the station and in full compliance with the MIP (Manufacturing Inspection Plan) and in compliance with the approved Wabtec manufacturing instructions and standards
  • Review customer requirements (both Internal & external) and make sure they are met.
  • Work with cross-functional team (Mnfg.Engg., Fulfilment, Supplier Quality, etc) to establish quality requirements from external suppliers.
  • Raise NCMR (Non-conforming material report) and follow up with stakeholders for its disposition.
  • Train and manage a team of quality control technicians (Team members or Quality Inspectors).
  • Set standards for quality considering health and safety.
  • Make sure that manufacturing processes meet international and national standards.
  • Look at ways to reduce waste and increase efficiency.
  • Undertake RCA and develop CAPA for repeated defects and NCMRs generated at the station
  • Prepare SoD (Strength of defense) for corrective actions
  • Prepare & reviewing PPAP documents (in case of manufacturing process change or introduction of new processes, if any)
  • Updatr existing Quality documents as per QMS.
  • Set up and maintain Quality controls (MIP) and documentation (Quality Alerts, Stand downs) in Reliance and Oracle online tools.
  • Monitor performance by gathering relevant data and produce statistical reports.
  • Liaise with other stakeholders and provide training, tools and techniques to enable others to achieve quality standards.
  • Assess the effectiveness of changes made.
  • Identify escape from previous stations, its cause and remedies.
  • Prepare Internal audit schedule (Process Audit) and adhere to timelines.
  • Weekly/Monthly reporting and documentation with zero quality escapes to next station
  • Undertake and drive special projects for reducing NCMR / quality defects from time to time
  • Pursue a culture of continuous quality improvement…communicate actively with SA station team members on quality alerts and reminders of quality alerts so that lessons learnt are not forgotten.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical /Production / Industrial/Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 3 – 6 years professional experience in production or process engineering or quality control, or manufacturing systems in rolling stock manufacturing or similar industry type (eg. automotive, power plant, heavy duty fabrication etc.)
  • Strong background in the interpretation of engineering drawings / specifications & manufacturing processes
  • Some experience in defining / generating / maintaining ISO-9001 QMS documentation, undertaking process audits
  • Prepare Quality data like DPU, DPMO
  • Having knowledge of FMEA and use of industry standard quality processes for measuring and controlling quality
  • Ability to Review drawings, plans, specifications along with manufacturing engineer and to incorporate the requirements into the Quality Plan / procedures.
  • Having working experience of Oracle or SAP ERPs for Shop planning & execution
  • Highly proficient in MS-Excel and good experience in use of other MS-Office applications
  • Sound knowledge in industry PPAP
  • Self-directed, highly detail oriented, organized, & flexible
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with diverse team members on the shopfloor and with cross functional stakeholders
  • Demonstrated oral/presentation & written communication skills
  • Good leadership skills, team building ability
  • Ability & willingness to travel both domestically & internationally
  • Six sigma green belt qualification ..ideal but not essential
  • ISO Lead auditor…ideal but not essential
