Position Description
Role Description
The Geometrical Assurance Engineering (GAE) group, which is a part of the Geometrical Architecture group, is in charge of the CAB design department and is in charge of ensuring that the cabs and the constituent components and systems are designed to the dimensional requirements to guarantee the aesthetic, functional, and mount-ability conditions. Your role as a Geometrical Assurance Engineer entails carrying out Geometrical Assurance Engineering tasks with the objective of preserving the geometrical quality of built goods for the duration of the whole product life cycle.
You will work closely with the quality requirement engineer, design team, CAB architecture team, verification leader, project manager, and vendors to complete your task.
To verify the solutions, you go to suppliers’ facilities and Volvo assembly plants.
Within the CAB design department, this post reports to the Group Manager of the Geometrical Architecture & Platform group.
Purpose
- The following succinctly expresses the role’s content:
- defining ideas and incorporating rigorous tolerancing at the part, subassembly, and assembly levels in the product and process
- preparing geometrical changes and verification for industrialisation and manufacturing
- statistical monitoring for stability and dimensional convergence throughout the manufacturing phase
2. Responsibility:
Geometrical Assurance-
- Implement the whole GAE procedure in all the projects’ impacted locations (Interior, exterior, driving & BIW)
- Deliver the required and balanced geometry in order to satisfy the expectations for the product’s interface/mountings, functionality, and aesthetics while taking into account technological advancements, project needs, and production constraints.
- During the pre-study, provide the GAE inputs to idea creation.
- Determine measurement techniques for suppliers, make revisions to the idea, and build a physical verification strategy while conducting concept studies.
- Carry out the physical-virtual correlation and master verification linked to GAE.
- At each gate, make sure cross-functional agreements take place and GAE deliverables are satisfied for the full project scope.
- Utilizing a QDCF mentality, analyse the conflicts in relation to demand and suggest solutions.
- Perform 2D and 3D tolerance studies and optimise the tolerances to satisfy the criteria while working on the allocated regions.
- Create procedures and instruments to boost productivity, and keep a diary of your project’s lessons learned.
As GAE Engineer, you will be doing the following Activities in general:
- Define and uphold the aesthetic gap and flush targets.
- Using the 3-2-1 approach, analyse, define, and manage BiW, Exterior, and Interior datum goals (reference system)
- Build tolerance simulation/analysis models in the RDnT software environment and perform tolerance calculation for BiW, Exterior, and Interior
- Locate remedies for computations that don’t account for variations
- Attend project meetings on a regular basis, comprehend and collect required inputs, and address questions. close communication with regional and onsite GAE equivalents, product developers, studio engineers, etc.
- Calculate functional tolerances aside from the Gap and Flush areas.
3 . Position requirements
- 3–7 years of experience in the automobile industry in the areas of geometrical assurance and dimension engineering, with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical or automotive engineering.
- Strong GD&T application knowledge and expertise, including the ability to define datum goals, apply GD&T callouts to BIW, Exterior, and Interior components, and assign tolerances
- understanding of tolerance stack up in 2D and 3D, as well as stack up calculation expertise.
- Understanding of the aesthetic standards of alignment, parallelism, flush, and gap.
- Knowledge in automotive product development, dimension management, and exposure to BIW and exterior as well as interior vehicle components.
- understanding of production techniques, methods, and acceptable tolerances understanding of the restrictions and design needs for conventional plastic, sheet metal, and tubular components
- understanding of inspection tools, gauges, and CMM measurements and techniques
- exposure to data analysis using statistics
- Software for 3D tolerance analysis such as Catia, RDnT/3DCS/Vis VSA, PDM Link, and MS Office
- complete understanding of truck applications and CAB.
- has abilities including problem-solving and decision-making, as well as cross-functional and teamwork.
- Customer-focused, business-minded, and a team player.
