Position – Mechanical Specialist – PD Quality

Job description

Specific tasks include:

• Review and approve the technical solutions at the quote stage, to ensure the mechanical architecture is capable to achieve the product requirements.
• Identify potential design problems during the detailed planning phase and ensure there is a gap closure plan to mitigate the risks during development.
• Work with the Product Development Quality engineers to ensure risks are actively managed throughout the Product Development lifecycle (monitoring key performance indicators, assessing product maturity at delivery milestones/gate reviews, auditing to ensure process compliance, etc.)
• Evaluate and approve the maturity of the mechanical development at the entry to the Design Validation (DV), providing confirmation that the design is capable to meet the product requirements.
• Signoff the final DV Report, confirming that the design will meet the product requirements
• Maintains knowledge of the latest technologies by participating in supplier technology presentations and internal technology roadmaps.

Requirements Competencies

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 8 years experience of mechanical design in automotive applications

In-depth knowledge in the following areas:

• Mechanical Architecture (knowledge of the key factors which drive the architectural decisions)
• Material properties/compatibility
• Joining Technologies (ultrasonic welding, adhesive bonding, etc.)
• Simulation / Thermal Analysis
• Tolerance Analysis / Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
• Molding Technologies (including Thixomolding)
• Sheet Metal forming

Desired Competencies

• Lead and contribute to Technical Design Reviews focusing on the most significant issues within a design
• Can demonstrate leadership of a team to solve complex technical problems
• Ability to manage a regional multi-cultural team
• Able to instruct, coach, and inspire others
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
