Aerodynamic & Mechanical > Tower Module > Value Engineering

The tower value engineering department is responsible for providing optimized tower solutions to the Vestas tower program. The tasks range from understanding the design requirement and requirement specification, designing the tower using analytical and FEM calculations, designing tower components, performing DFMEA, test planning and execution to risk assessments, and compilation of certification documentation.

Tower value engineering is an extension of the global tower Module. The department is responsible for providing customized tower solutions for sales orders, design modifications for the local market and innovative design solutions for the life extension of old turbine towers along with fulfilling certification needs.

The focus is on securing sound, cost-optimized, and production-friendly solutions and at the same time fulfilling the overall requirements to safety and functionality for the products. Additionally, process efficiency and lead time reduction is of key importance in order to fulfill Vestas’s overall ambitions of delivering products, which are configured to customer needs in a timely manner. The team is in Chennai, India.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver optimized tower structural design, drawing and documentation using FE and analytical calculations
  • Handle technical queries certification bodies
  • Perform FE assessment for tower structural and internal components and generation of report for internal assessment and 3rd party certification
  • Development and parameterization of FE models and post-processing tools
  • Participate in development of proprietary software using Matlab, Python or VBA
  • Provide feedback and challenge design solutions to interfacing systems in order to optimize product design
  • Identify and report technical risks within the project scope
  • Deliver the technical solution within the quality, time, and cost targets of the project

Qualifications

  • Master’s/ Bachelor’s in Mechanical / Civil / Structural / Similar specialization
  • Minimum Professional experience: 2-5 years
  • Experience in the design of turbines or preferably dynamically loaded structures
  • Experience with FEA and relevant FE software is good to have
  • Programming skill, Python, C, and Matlab is good to have

Competencies

  • Significant knowledge of fundamentals of structural analysis and design and problem-solving skill
  • Experience in linear, nonlinear, fatigue, contact, and vibration analysis using FEA and analytical calculations
  • Good knowledge of Design standards is good to have
  • Experience in product development and FEA
  • Experience in Python, Matlab and VBA programming is good to have
  • Have good communication skills to convey complex problems to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Worked in a multicultural and global environment
  • Proactive and demonstrate leadership skill through various initiatives in collage and career
