Role Summary (Purpose: why this role exists?)
The Piping Designer produces 3D Modeling, 2D layout, arrangement and fabrication drawings of the company’s products and equipment assembled on skid and of the interconnecting facilities of the plant inside company scope
Ensure that the drawings and documents output from the Plant 3D and P&ID Software comply with the Veolia standards and business requirements. Continuously improve outputs based on lessons learned and the state of the industry and the state of the art.
Must be able to effectively communicate, organize and be efficient in time management with a team of engineers from multiple disciplines. High levels of decision making, organization and planning is required to be effective
Essential Responsibilities / Expectations
- Design layout in 3D models of equipment, piping, structures and instrumentation for the entire plant and or insider a skid
- Provide safe operation and access for operators of the package
- Minimize fabrication cost through optimization of pipe and cable tray routing
- Follow international standards and project specifications
- Assure designs are ready for review and comments are correctly resolved
- Produce detailed drawings for both proposal and project requirements
- Ensure that fabrication drawings clearly present information to the shop floor
- Produce and ensure quality and consistency of common piping deliverables including; Isometrics, Piping GA’s, Tie-In Details and Plot Plans
- Undertake MTO duties when necessary and assists with the preparation of presentation material, such as videos, animation and plant views
- Resolve issues during fabrication, such as physical clashes
- Self Review drawings produced
- Engage in the mark-up of P&IDs
- Skills & Duties (upon which Performance can be measured)
- Understanding of the fundamental process and mechanical requirements of the company’s process packages
- Able to spatially conceptualize and translate ideas into design drawings
- Thorough knowledge of Equipment layout Development, Piping layout design for all types of equipment such as Vessels, Exchangers, Tanks, Pumps, Compressors and Piping MTO
- Familiar with the requirements of Oil & Gas drawings and specifications, including normal symbology and the requirement for consistency
- Understand the data requirements of drawings being produced to facilitate an efficient fabrication process
- Ability to translate technical data into equipment drawings
- Familiarity with fabrication practices
- Educational Qualification: Engineering Degree – Mechanical or equivalent experience
Experience Required
- +4-7 years’ Experience in Water, Oil & Gas or related industry
- Proficient in the use of 3D modeling packages (Solid works / CADWORKS/AUTO CAD PLANT 3D/ PDMS/E3D /SMARTPLANT 3D) and AutoCAD
- Familiarity with international specifications relating to structures, piping and vessels
