Job description
Basic Purpose and Objective:
The product designer needs the capability to receive & design products necessary to fulfill customer (internal/external) requirements with some supervision. They need the ability to evaluate a design to determine if it will function within our manufacturing processes while adhering to the drafting & design standards set by the company. Familiarity with the basic principles of mechanical engineering theory and strong CAD skills are required.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Design automotive fasteners (plastic and metal) based concepts in the customer environment and/or from instruction
- Create and check all supporting 2D drawings including GD&T
- Create design stack-ups and design studies to verify good design conditions
- Complete design stack-ups and design studies
- Participate in team meetings
- Complete 3D and 2D design changes
- Provide general assistance to the product development team
- Maintain product and CAD records (files, etc.)
- To be proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Participate in a cross-functional product development team from inception through product introduction
- Help product development engineer develop solutions using complete engineering analysis through virtual simulation, engineering principles root cause analysis, and lessons learned
Experience Required
- Associates degree in Engineering or equivalent gained through directly related experience
- 2+ years of 3D CAD design experience in UG NX and/or CATIA (CATIA preferred)
- 1+ years of experience in detailed mechanical design and applications development
- Must be familiar with basic principles of mechanical engineering theory
- Understanding of design for manufacturability and assemblability required
- Design for plastic injection molded part preferred
- Design for stamping, sheet metal forming, and cold forming in steel and aluminum preferred
- Automotive design and development cycle experience preferred
