Job description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The PSBU packaging Engineer is responsible for design and development of packaging of all the cable assembly designed in India and manufactured in any location across the world and support Connectors packaging.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with Product Development Team (Cable assemblies and connector) to establish packaging strategy (i.e. Molex standard packaging and Customer specific packaging e.g. Bulk pack, Honeycomb packaging, Plastic free packaging, customized boxes or trays etc.).
  • Creates packaging specifications (i.e. Solid models and detail drawings etc.)
  • Work with Product Engineer to understand the packaging requirement and create the packaging specification as per the requirement. Over couple of years, should be engaging with customer directly in communication and providing solutions.
  • Work with outside packaging supplier to obtain quotations and purchase packaging components.
  • Responsible for testing and approval of new packaging.
  • Responsible for secondary packaging as required per country standard.
  • Keeps abreast of Molex worldwide packaging standards and customer specific standards or country specific requirements.
  • Works with Quality, Product Engineering, and the Manufacturing Plant to resolve packaging problems, both internally and externally (e.g. resolves QN’s)
  • Keeps abreast of industry and government regulations that affect packaging materials, material handling, recycling, etc.
  • Develops standards to address new regulatory requirements and ensures that the business unit is aware of government regulations and environmental requirements for packaging.
  • Identifies and manages packaging cost reduction and quality improvement projects.
  • Follows the PSBU Product Development Process.
  • Supports Molex TQM program by following approved policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Be member of Global packaging council.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

Preferred: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Packaging

WORK RELATED EXPERIENCE:

Required: 2-5 yr. min. experience with product design, packaging, or industrial engineering

Preferred: 2-5 years’ experience in packaging design and implementation

1-3 years’ experience in project level work exclusively in Customized packaging and country specific requirements.

SKILLS:

Required:

  1. Project management skills that demonstrate the ability to set goals and priorities in order to complete projects in a systematic and timely manner
  2. Knowledge of packaging materials and processes used in the electronics industry, including corrugated materials, thermoformed tapes and trays, and extruded tubes etc.
  3. Good in analyzing the packaging design and advance planning.
  4. Proficient in CAD solid modeling and capable of generating 3D models & 2D detail drawings in latest version of NX
  5. Experience with general PC software tools, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate the ability to express complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  7. Analytical ability to apply logical reasoning, test assumptions, observe results and make corrections.
  8. Good organization skills to anticipate, plan, organize and self-monitor workload
  9. Knowledge of SPC (Statistical Process Control)
  10. Knowledge different countries packaging standard is added advantage.

Preferred: Demonstrated history of technical creativity
