The Hitachi ABB Power Grids Operations Center (INOPC) is a competence center with around 1500 skilled engineers who focus on tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, functional system testing, installation supervision and commissioning. However, over the last decade, it has evolved to become the largest engineering hub. The India Operations Centre is a key aspect of the Power Grids business Power Up transformation program. The INOPC team at Chennai supports Hitachi ABB Power Grid’s units in more than 40 countries across a wide portfolio of all the four business units in Power Grid business. To date, the team has executed engineering and commissioning for projects in more than 80 countries.
Your responsibilities
- Preparation of electrical circuit diagrams of high voltage Circuit Breaker (66kV and above) for various substation configurations.
- Co-ordination and reviewing the 2D and 3D drawings before submitting the same to customers.
- Preparation of guaranteed technical parameters for various high voltage equipment’s such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, earth switches.
- Addressing the technical queries raised by customer during execution of project in case if required.
- Supporting to various cross functions like SCM, project management and quality for understanding the customer requirements and specifications in case if required.
- Generating BoM of modules and products and creating part numbers using SAP.
- Supporting to onsite installation and commissioning colleagues for understanding the customer drawings and other technical support.
- Visiting the customer for attending the queries and ensuring the engineering drawings approval in time.

Your background
- Bachelors/Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 – 7 years of experience in E3 software.
- Knowledge of relevant International standards ex. IEEE, IEC etc.
- Knowledge of high voltage gas insulated switchgear (66kv and above).

We are looking for a Research & Development Engineer to join High Voltage Metal Enclosed breaker, (PASS/DTB products) R&D team. You will assume a technical role in design & development of various modules/sub-systems of high voltage viz. circuit breaker, disconnector, earthing switch, bus bar / bus duct, structure etc. as well as will support product maintenance that align with growth and cost reduction initiatives. You should be able to demonstrate a strong mechanical/electrical design & development background combined with excellent analytical skills and hands-on experience with state-of-the-art design techniques.
Your responsibilities
- Design & detailing of various modules/sub-systems of high voltage gas insulated switchgear (Circuit breaker, disconnector, bus bar/bus duct, earthing switch, structure).
- Global product technical support for worldwide technology centers and factories.
- Creating base design as a foundation for decisions in the feasibility stage of a project.
- Perform mechanical (static & dynamic), dielectric & electro-magnetic calculation.
- Design documentation (Development/feasibility study report/delivery & test instruction).
- Perform DFMEA, DFM, DFA, DFSS, DOE etc.
- Prototyping & testing of modules.
- Collaborate with cross-functions including quality, operation, SCM.

Your background
- A B.Tech./M.Tech. (Mechanical) with 2 to 5 years experience.
- Design & development of low, medium, high voltage SF6 switchgear preferred.
- Working knowledge of IEC standards and type testing of switchgear.
- Working knowledge of design process/quality tools like DFMEA, DFM, DFA, DFSS, DOE etc.
- Hands-on experience of 3D model/PLM tool like Creo 2.0 ,PDM Link and SAP.
- Hands-on experience in FEA tools – Ansys, Creo Simulate, Adams, Dymola (Matlab)
- Hands-on experience of dielectric & electro-magnetic calculation using FEA tools (Flux, Coulomb)
- Hands-on experience of drawing, BOM, GD&T, tolerance stack up analysis
- Manufacturing knowledge (casting, machining, sheet metal & plastic parts etc)
- Knowledge of Material and standards (ISO, DIN, IS)

Your responsibilities
- Creating mechanical design of semiconductor-based solutions for AC and DC used in our HVDC transmissions.
- As part of your daily tasks, you will work with technically challenging products which span over several technological areas – for example heat transfer, electrical insulation, strength of materials and manufacturing technologies.
- You will be responsible for specifying testing’s and ensuring execution is according to current standards and customer specifications.

Your background
- A Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- At least 4-8 Years of experience within Mechanical design.
- Electro-Mechanical design experience from electric power industry or design of high voltage products is valuable.
- Strong proficiency in 3D-CAD modeling is a must, ideally in NX environment. It is preferable if you have good knowledge in Team Center and SAP as well.
- Preferably understanding applications of electrical power equipment in HV/EHV system.
- Knowledge on mechanical standards is preferable.
- We also expect that you have strong self-learning skills and strong collaborative capabilities and able to work in international team.
- Strong interpersonal communication skill, fluent English.
