Job Description Summary

Lead engineer – Thermal performance test will be executing performance tests for fossil power plants for new build plants and retrofits. The incumbent will lead plant assessment activities of installed base and develop the solutions specific to the assessed plant. Areas of customer quality include accurate/timely documentation, appropriate/timely installation of instrumentation, accurate collection of field data, various site activities, calculations, report preparation and communications.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Drives units and/or system level functional performance to deliver customer solutions. Defines and conducts testing of equipment and/or entire systems, identifying the best testing strategy and measurement system. Reports performance with respect to the guaranteed values in accordance with industry codes and standards. Participates in the research, design, development, and enhancement of technologies in the areas of performance, operability, and cost optimization. Can include delivery of customer solutions that properly balance cost and benefit (including architecture, key design trade-offs, flow-down of requirements and flow-up of capability).
  • Review contract performance guarantees and test expectations
  • Identify the performance risks and preparing mitigation plans
  • Prepare performance test procedure
  • Supporting PG test instrument calibrations, instrumentation preparation, site transport
  • Installation of PG test instrumentation, data collection and sanity check and trouble shooting at site
  • Executing thermal performance tests at site, coordination with customer for successful completion of test
  • Performance calculation with data collected from site
  • Prepare performance assessment reports and discussion with customer for report approval
  • Prepare feedback summary and share with tendering and execution team.
  • This position requires extensive travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • At least four (4) years of experience in Thermal Plant Performance
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics and thermodynamic cycles as they relate to fossil power plants, particularly steam turbine island.
  • Knowledge of technical guarantees principles and commercial consequences
  • Good understanding of precision instrumentations used in PG test, it’s accuracies, and calibrations
  • Knowledge of performance test codes such as ASME PTC codes
  • Prior experience in power plant performance testing and analysis
  • Broad knowledge in the field of engineering practices, ability to motivate position, analysis for the appropriate use within SP business and projects stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of power plant and/or steam turbine design
  • Ability to travel extensively in support of assignments
  • Fluent in English language

Desired Characteristics

  • Expert level proficiency in power plants system level operation and thermodynamics
  • Tendering & Project execution experience
  • Experience with modelling and analysis programs for power plants
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical/Energy Engineering
  • Proficient in the use of computers and PC software

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Prior power plant testing experience
