Job Description Summary

As a Research Engineer – Heat Transfer & Thermal Management, you will collaboratively execute heat transfer and thermal management technology research programs for aircraft engines, wind & power turbines, and medical diagnostic equipment. You will interact with personnel at GE Research, Aviation, Healthcare, Power & Renewables to develop and deliver novel solutions aligned with GE’s goals of shaping the future of flight, leading energy transition, and precision health.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Apply your knowledge in heat transfer and thermal management to develop innovative aerothermal/mechanical solutions for the GE product portfolio
  • Develop ideas and concepts, and mature technologies through various readiness levels (TRL), to improve thermal management for GE products
  • Deliver on technical projects meeting schedules and budgets, implement plans with guidance to meet technical requirements, and document results
  • Participate in a team on multi-generation technology programs to enable future design advancements, while independently executing tasks leveraging your technical skills
  • Build a network and collaborate with GE Aviation, Healthcare, Power, Renewables and Research team members to identify opportunities for innovation, build plans and execute on technical projects

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering specializing in Heat Transfer/Thermal Management, OR M.S/M.Tech in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering specializing in Heat Transfer/Thermal Management, with 3-5 years of experience in industrial research. Doc
  • Demonstrated fundamental knowledge in computational heat transfer / thermal management, evidenced by advanced graduate coursework and research
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in thermal and flow Modeling, Simulation & Analysis
  • Experience with commercial software (FLUENT, CFX, Icepack) or in-house code development
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment

Desired Characteristics

  • Design experience in heat transfer and thermal management, at various levels of fidelity
  • Experimental heat transfer in addition to computational heat transfer skills
  • Advanced computational or experimental skills from “start-to-finish” to provide physics-based insights to guide design and innovation
  • Research in any one of the following areas: electronics cooling, gas turbine heat transfer, thermal management of generators, thermal & energy systems modeling
