Job description

Responsibilities, authorities, and accountabilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements. This work would include mechanical and/or electrical engineering for all products
  • Develops new solutions under guidance and/or in a team setting or based upon precedents in the organizations.
  • Works together with business leadership at SPB and EB level. Specifies needs, communicates about project approach, and presents outcomes of research done.
  • Delivers products as part of a team. Works on cross-functional teams. Alternatively: Leads analytical and design activities using proven technologies and vested approaches and methods.

A) Supporting the Tendering department in the quotation phase to the customer where coordination takes place and support is provided with regard to:

  • design components of customer-specific generators and motors
  • define boundary conditions for our offer
  • review the customer specifications
  • technical feasibility
  • performing specific calculations like lateral rotor dynamic analyses
  • answering technical questions

B) Project management support in the implementation phase

  • At the start of the project, check on technical feasibility, complete execution of mechanical design and production of documents for the customer, and further production/procurement process.
  • Ensure that the product to be delivered meets the contractual and customer requirements, on-time delivery, and is within the engineering hours budget.
  • Supporting project management with regard to technical questions during project implementation and discussions with the customer.
  • In the final phase of the project, supervising the testing and conducting technical discussions with the customer during delivery.

C) Product and software development

  • the development of new and/or further development of existing products and/or systems for machines or installations that satisfy the program of requirements with regard to functionality, performance, reliability, maintainability, availability in the market, and cost price.
  • Management of all aspects related to the development, maintenance, improvement, and/or modification of the product ranges.
  • Development and management of software tools.
  • Keeping up with technologies and product developments with regard to the product in the market.
  • Ensure regulatory and statutory compliance on product design, relevant technical, safety, and environmental standards, codes of practice, etc.

D) Consultancy

  • Providing advisory and support services to internal departments within Brush and external relations in his/her field of expertise for both New Build and Service.
  • Cooperate in the manufacturing and cost reduction processes in conjunction with manufacturing.
  • Participate in the standardized processes within the Electrical & Mechanical Engineering team.
  • Lead and coordinate the development of existing and new products as required by the business needs – all developments are to be sufficiently resourced to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Give a response on NCRs within 24 hours.
  • Accountable for the adequate data protection activities and awareness levels within their area of responsibility, in line with the data protection policy.
  • Live the Brush values and inspire others to lead by example.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in Engineering/Technology). Minimum of 3 additional years of experience in Mechanical Components.

  • Preferably a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Mechanical FEA modeling and simulation
  • IT Literacy and proficiency in the use of MS Office Packages.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport.
  • Drive for tangible and measurable results
  • Drive to consistently reach challenging goals
  • Well-developed EQ (emotional intelligence) and the ability to leverage this.
  • Passion for technology and the application thereof, relevant to the portfolio.

B) Knowledge

  • Preferably a solid understanding of electrical machines.
  • Mechanical Engineering knowledge
  • Lean Six Sigma methodology.

C) Experience

  • Engineering experience within a medium to large enterprise in the Power, Oil and gas or Mining segment
  • Experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of participating in development and cost reduction products
  • Proven ability to complete projects and achieve results in an ambiguous work environment.
  • Successful track record of delivering accurate, comprehensive requirements to specific timescales and release schedules
