A group of experts at Vestas Power Solutions is working on solutions for the transport, construction, and maintenance (TCM) of the towers.
The department is looking for a highly skilled mechanical engineer who will be in charge of helping to establish the tools and procedures for transporting the towers by land, sea, and rail from the factory to the site, building them there, and maintaining them while they are in use.

The interfaces (i.e., the tools) between the wind turbine towers and trucks, trains, and ships (transport), as well as cranes, are designed by the Tower TCM team within the Tower module (construction). Moreover, any equipment needed for maintenance while it is in use. Additionally, it is in charge of creating the procedures that will employ the aforementioned instruments. Our major goal is to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the shipping, building, and maintenance of wind turbine towers while always keeping the safety of people and property in mind.
The Tower TCM team now comprises of ten or more highly qualified and driven engineers that are based in Chennai, India and Porto, Portugal. It is a worldwide team since employees at both locations closely collaborate with one another. Responsibilities
- To assist project delivery within the set deadlines and budget, communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop the idea for the equipment to transport, build, and maintain the towers of the wind turbines efficiently and safely.
- Create the tools (3D and 2D)
- In compliance with international standards, evaluate the tools’ structural integrity using systematic or finite element techniques.
- HSE risk assessments should be made.
- FMEA for tools and procedures should be created.
- Make design-related paperwork for vendors.
- Take care of prototyping your designs and work closely with field personnel.
Qualifications
- Mechanical or civil engineering bachelor’s or master’s degree (or similar)
- experience working as a structural or mechanical design engineer for equipment or steel constructions for a minimum of two to five years
- knowledge of 2D drawing and 3D modelling, such as utilising Creo
- FEM knowledge, such as utilising ANSYS (Workbench)
Competencies
- a solid understanding of structural mechanics
- a solid understanding of materials and their properties, particularly steel
- excellent manufacturing process knowledge
- Being familiar with Eurocode 3 is a benefit.
- An advantage is having knowledge of construction or transportation operations.
- Being familiar with the wind business is a plus.
