Position – Design Engineer – CAD

Job description

Basic Purpose and Objective:

  • The product designer needs the capability to receive & design products necessary to fulfill customer (internal/external) requirements with some supervision. They need the ability to evaluate a design to determine if it will function within our manufacturing processes while adhering to the drafting & design standards set by the company. Familiarity with the basic principles of mechanical engineering theory and strong CAD skills are required.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design automotive fasteners (plastic and metal) based concepts in the customer environment and/or from instruction
  • Create and check all supporting 2D drawings including GD&T
  • Create design stack-ups and design studies to verify good design conditions
  • Complete design stack-ups and design studies
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Complete 3D and 2D design changes
  • Provide general assistance to the product development team
  • Maintain product and CAD records (files, etc.)
  • To be proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Participate in a cross-functional product development team from inception through product introduction
  • Help product development engineer develop solutions using complete engineering analysis through virtual simulation, engineering principles root cause analysis, and lessons learned

Experience Required

  • Associates degree Engineering or equivalent gained through directly related experience
  • 2+ years of 3D CAD design experience in UG NX and/or CATIA (CATIA preferred)
  • 1+ years of experience in detail mechanical design and applications development
  • Must be familiar with basic principles of mechanical engineering theory
  • Understanding of design for manufacturability and assemblability required
  • Design for plastic injection molded part preferred
  • Design for stamping, sheet metal forming, and cold forming in steel and aluminum preferred
  • Automotive design and development cycle experience preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Perform complex design analysis using Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) software.
  • Understand customer basic requirements and expectations for new product design and improved designs.
  • Develop alternative design solutions or quick engineering solutions for complex problems.
  • Maintain records of all activities and results in the CAE project database.
  • Participate in design review meetings to provide appropriate recommendations.
  • Communicate with team members and customers on all projects related matters.

  • 2+ years of related, on the job experience in detail mechanical design and development or applications development preferred.
  • Understanding of principles of mechanical engineering theory along with general drafting skills.
  • Experience in PDM (PTC/WindChill) systems at the user level preferred.
  • 4+ years of FEA and/or Moldflow experience/coursework preferred.

Working knowledge of Altair suite of products, such as:

  • Create new FMEA’s for the global Engineering team
  • Update FMEA’s as needed with Engineering changes or lessons learned

  • Cost Estimating Engineer is responsible to cost everything required to manufacture a plastic product and/or assembly. Each project request may or may not include metal or plastic products, injection mold tooling, check fixtures, gages, or other process related components. This position may obtain costs of these components from others (internally or externally) or generate the cost themselves.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working knowledge of materials, GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and the design and manufacturing of injection molded parts and assemblies.
  • Support manufacturing engineers, product development engineers, and customer managers to implement costing best practices into new product designs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Salesforce.com Solutions to manage and complete cost requests.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 2 years minimum experience in costing, product, or manufacturing engineering

Position – Data Entry Specialist

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate change from JDE to Windchill: Articulate the changes pushed from Windchill CN process to JDE for new part setup. Input to JDE for new part structure. Set up BOM in JDE for manufacturing.
  • Control changes and implementation of the change process in Windchill. Implement changes to BOM, including components and assemblies changes. Promote, check, and enter change links. Restore any lost links.
  • Create tooling work orders and updates, adding to the release process. Share updated files with accounting for expenditure tracking.
  • Design and implement improved tooling tracking process, including new tool numbers tracked in JDE and in BOM structures.
  • Promote the timely process flow of information.
  • Support the Global Fastener Engineering department’s changes, work instructions, documentation, and communication.
  • Cross-reference and review PN information in BOM, ERP, Quote, KO, ECR.
  • No supervisory responsibility; this person must work through others in the organization to succeed.
  • Enter requested data using QAD and TinyTERM systems
  • Detail-oriented with good note-taking and record-keeping abilities

Education and Experience Required

  • Associate’s Degree or higher in Business Management
  • Previous experience with JDE, QAD, TinyTERM, or equivalent ERP Systems
