JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Assistant Manager Application Engineer

Reports To: Head Automotive Powertrain Business Line

Role Type: Individual Contribution

Location: Pune / Bangalore

Role Purpose:

The application engineer will be responsible for converting the technical requirements of customer into a SKF technical proposals solution and convert into new business by closely working and enabling full value chain (engineering, testing, factory, quality, sourcing, quality), manage and lead technical partnership with customers, identifying opportunities for growth in revenue and profitability, responding to customer inquiries, resolving complaints and failures, evaluating and mitigating technical risks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Independently lead and grow business engagement with OEM/Tier-1 Engineering and sourcing teams acting as customer single point of contact for SKF bearings and solutions.
• proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities by understanding customer concerns and evolving market needs.
• Identify and analyse the customer’s technical requirements and communicate the parameters clearly and accurately to the SKF engineering value chain.
• Create application engineering proposals and customized solutions according to customer requirements and present to customers in a clear and effective manner.
• Work in coordination with SKF product design and product engineering teams to facilitate DFMEA and discuss the same with customers on a specific project or product line.
• Prepare and execute design verification and process validation test plans using global testing resources.
• Promote and emphasize first-time-right quality by offering a critical assessment of product or processes and deploying continuous improvement activities such as lessons learned, warranty analysis, etc.
• Root Cause Analysis of the customers’ application and bearing performance issues and contribute to the issue resolution and converting the problem into the opportunity for new product development & innovation.
• Facilitate and drive engineering activities as per SKF ETO process from the start of business opportunity until end of production, including the specification phase, prototype phase, industrialization phase, series production phase and warranty phase.
• Participate and contribute to internal and external training & SKF technology day, assist with the development of training material, prepare and updating product and application mapping
• Actively participate in maintaining workplace safety by adhering to all safety protocols, reporting hazards promptly, and upholding the company’s code of conduct in all professional interactions.
• Ensure the quality management and data storage of engineering projects and programs.
• Willing to travel and visit anywhere in India for business demand to customers of SKF locations.
• Adhere to SKF organization management policies and processes.

Candidate Profile:

• A bachelor’s degree in automobile/mechanical engineering
• added advantage for diploma/polytechnic engineering in any stream with a bachelor’s degree.
• 3-6 years relevant work experience in automotive or off-highway or rotating machinery applications.
• Experience with passenger vehicle & commercial vehicle applications is preferred.
• Application knowledge on the type of material, its selection, manufacturing process, heat & surface treatments
• Application of knowledge in mechanical and automotive rotating system design principals, failure theory, key functions and technical requirements, design failure modes, testing and validation
• Working knowledge of DFM, DFA, DFMEA, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Working experience in engineering project management, quality audits, and its procedure, PPAP
• A distinct advantage for knowledge on the bearing, its design and selection, simulation & analysis, mfg. process, bearing failure, and root cause analysis.
• A distinct advantage for working knowledge of noise and vibration.
• Excellent interpersonal, relationship management, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent reading, writing creative presentation and communication skills.
• Demonstrate a proactive and growth mindset and positive attitude.
