Job description

Position: Design Engineer

Experience: Min 3years

Essential functions

  • To perform the design of sheet metal and plastic enclosures, subassemblies and assemblies that meet the mechanical, thermal and DFA/DFM requirements of the system.
  • To interact with Mechanical qualification team in identifying appropriate vendors and develop prototypes of parts and subassemblies.
  • To analyze, test the prototypes and document the test results. Refine the design based on the inputs from the prototype testing.
  • To prepare and evaluate the final design specifications in the form of 3D CAD models, 2D drawings.
  • To interact with Mechanical Qualification team for deciding the tooling and release 3D and 2D data for tooling.
  • Participate and support design reviews during tooling.
  • To conduct Design Verification Tests (DVT) on the tooled up product.
  • To design and develop packaging foams and cartons. Generate die-cut drawings for cartons. Generate artwork for screen/pad printing and label on the products. Get the artworks reviewed by the appropriate team.
  • To plan and support tooling phase of development.
  • To prepare final design specifications in the form of 3D models and 2D drawings. Release 3D and 2D data for tooling.
  • Support qualification activities for new parts. Perform lead role in release of documents into PDM
  • Plan and support PCB assembly design, sub-system and system level testing, release to manufacturing and quality volume objectives of product development process

Secondary Functions:

  • Prepare Bill of Materials. Generating part specifications in the database, creating Assembly drawings.
  • Assist primary vendor qualification.
  • Assist in performing DFMEA
  • Assist in qualification of new parts/subassemblies.
  • Assist in getting quotes, vendor interaction, negotiation

  • Knowledge of sheet metal and plastic design
  • Competent in 3D CAD modelling.
  • Knowledge on plastic and sheet metal manufacturing processes and tooling desirable
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements is desirable.
  • Ability to design an experimental setup for evaluation

Software skills/ Job Specific Skills

‘- Knowledge and demonstrated experience using CAD software tools like Pro-Engineer/CREO, Corel draw (diserable)

  • Competency in Analysis Simulation tools.

Any Managerial Skills

  • Strong presentation and communication skills and ability to document the work output
  • Ability to draw useful inference / conclusions with the available information.

– Collaborative behavior – Willingness to share knowledge and experience with other team members/functional teams.

  • Ability to estimate time required for the completion of a job/project.

Qualifications
