This is how we create brilliance, which we should sell by letting the facts speak for themselves.
Stress engineers ensure the integrity of our products. They work across a wide variety of commodities including Gas turbine Engine components, externals, packaging, and structures & transmissions. They predict the mechanical behavior of components and sub-systems taking into account various failure mechanisms (e.g. proof, ultimate, fatigue (low & high cycle), creep, etc.) and contributing factors (e.g. vibration, thermally induced loads, inherent manufacturing anomalies, corrosion, extreme operating conditions such as over-speed, etc.). The role of a Mechanical Technology Stress Engineer includes being influential at all stages in the design cycle, from the product’s service life to component disposal.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the integrity of our products Development & in-service.
- Work as part of a multi-discipline team to ensure new designs are fit for purpose (cost, weight, performance, manufacturability, etc.).
- Compile stress solutions of complex assemblies and define plans for analysis tasks by collaborating across Engineering Disciplines, including Verification, Manufacturing, and Services.
- Work with key stakeholders to ensure all work meets customer expectations and regulatory requirements, and is completed within the given timeline to an agreed quality standard.
- Be responsible for presenting and justifying stress solutions at technical and business review meetings and produce Stress and learning reports.
- Develop, or contribute to the development of, new methods, processes, tools, and guidance and support the ongoing safety of In-Service Engines

- An understanding of material behavior, crack propagation, contact, thermo-mechanical fatigue, and statistics and the ability to develop new methods and processes particularly related to mechanical analysis.
- Experience in finite element stressing techniques and complex testing (of assemblies, components, and materials)
- An appreciation of the importance of product integrity is considered essential.
