Roles & Responsibilities: The Mechanical Engineer – Converter Design is performing the mechanical design activities in order and development projects under the supervision of a Sr. Mechanical Engineer / Team Lead – Mechanical design. She/he is responsible to design & develop converters’ mechanical design & reviewing technical specifications and performs the following activities:
- Selects cabinet design concepts & materials inclusive surface treatments,
- Designs cabinets and ensures their mechanical integrity in 3D tools preferably CATIA v5.
- Strong structural design know-how with hands-on experience in welding construction design.
- Able to contribute to Enclosure panel, cabinet structural design, supplier development, and welding reviews.
- Able to review structural calculation reports for static, fatigue, etc and give recommendations for structural design improvements.
- Prepares component specifications,
- Performs cost analyzes, evaluates, and recommend components, devices and sub-contractors
- Generates engineering reports & documentation,
- Designs cabinets and ensures their mechanical integrity in 3D tools,
- Design of converter/panel cooling for air- & water-cooling solutions as per design requirements,
- Prepares component & wiring layouts using Catia electrical harness
- Supports prototyping & prototype testing activities.
Required Skills (Technical Competency):
- Converter design inclusive of relevant product & test standards, and know-how on EN15085-3 will be added advantage.
- Design of electrical cabinets inclusive of relevant components/parts/products using various IEC/EN/DIN/ISO standards & test standards as applicable with a focus on the design of the mechanical structure, component placement & packaging, cable harness & routing, etc.
- Modeling & Simulation of converters & related to thermal behavior, fluid dynamics & mechanical strength,
- Dimensioning & selection of housing made of black steel, stainless steel, and aluminum material,
- Selection and dimensioning of converter components, i.e. pumps, fans, blowers, heat exchanges etc. inclusive of relevant standards,
- Surface treatment principles inclusive of relevant standards,
- Product Safety as per EN 50126, 50128 & 50129,
- Tools, viz. Catia, PDM, CFD, FEA, MS Office &
- Good understanding of quality assurance and procurement processes, viz. SEAP, PPAP, FAI, etc.
