Job Description

  • In this role, you have the opportunity for design, development and Supplier co-ordination on various programs spanning across functions within Philips to deliver a complete product development for EAS business.

You are responsible for

  • The Mechanical designer defines the structure of the subsystem that is to be developed, based upon customer requirements/product specifications and technology trends. He defines the way in which the subsystem has to be divided into separate components and/or modules.
  • The Mechanical designer also formulates the technical roadmap for his subsystem, conducts PRP studies and/or innovation studies, and leads the introduction of new technologies.
  • The Mechanical Designer has the responsibility to create, implement, and test the design on the Unit level, conform to the departmental and project procedures and processes.
  • The Mechanical Designer ensures that his design is consistent with the higher-level architecture and requirements.
  • Jobholder ensures that his design is understood by the Mechanical -Engineers and verifies the correct implementation.
  • The Mechanical Designer is responsible for planning and tracking of his Units and ensures risks are mitigated and communicated to stakeholders.
  • Mechanical Designer has built up a specialization in Sheet Metal, Casting, and Plastic design.
  • Responsible for the creation of the mechanical architecture is modular, easy to maintain, and extendible (components and modules), and re-usable.
  • The Mechanical Designer would ensure that the proposed architecture would have the safety and reliability features build in.
  • Participates in the system architecture definition and in the Product Requirement Specification; advises the System Architect regarding choices of what must be achieved in the design and advises on make-or-buy decisions.
  • Contributes to the Work Breakdown Structure/ the planning process of his/her area. Draws up personal schedule and reports on progress.
  • Has expertise in design techniques, application domain, and engineering. Keeps it up-to-date and propagates it, both internal and external.
  • Advises on internal development or outsourcing. Managing R&D relationships with Engineering service suppliers.
  • Supervising design activities at the design partner, participating in design reviews and risk assessments (e.g. FMEA), and monitoring (technical) progress and technical risk mitigation.
  • Working closely with all the other team members both R&D team members and cross-functional stakeholders for the projects
  • Working closely with local and global suppliers
  • Ensuring Reliability and Serviceability requirements of the system/subsystem/components for a project
  • Ensures that the components/products at the supplier (including spare parts and services) are released according to the agreed specification and quality requirements (MQA/APQP / PPAP), and SQ audit results.
  • Creating reliability test specification/acceptance criteria from Requirements.
  • Creating of reliability test fixture & automations
  • Inspires his team members to get the job done.
  • Acts in line with departmental and project processes (QMS)

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Master/bachelor’s in mechanical engineering with 8+ years of experience
  • Expertise in design techniques, application domain, and engineering. Keeps it up-to-date and propagates it, both internal and external.
  • Ability to technically lead a team with a Domain Expertise in Machine Design, Manufacturing Process, Materials selection, Value Engineering
  • Analytical, creative, and intellectual thinker, with the ability to perform mechanical design calculations & verify designs
  • Good Knowledge of Manufacturing processes like Sheet Metal & Fabrication / Plastic / Machining while designing.
  • Excellent command of, skills like Reliability measures, DFSS (Design for Six Sigma), Risk Analysis, DFMEA, DFM, GD & T, Tolerance Stack-up Analysis, etc.
  • Lateral thinker with a bird’s eye view, capable of finding an appropriate solution to complex problems.
  • Working knowledge of CAD & FEA Tools like ProE / SolidWorks / Windchill / Ansys Classic / Ansys Workbench will be an added advantage
  • Exposure to International Quality and Regulatory Standards e.g. IEC, FDA, CFR, MDD, UL, CE, CSA, BIS, etc. will be an added advantage
  • Good understanding of Reliability Concepts and Testing like HALT and HAST.
  • Good knowledge of production/quality development and control methods; CtQ definition, DfSS, SPC, APQP, FMEA, Control Plans, etc.)

This position is responsible for leading the team while interfacing with cross functional team during product development. The Engineering Manager leads team in defining the structure of the subsystem that is to be developed, based upon customer requirements/product specifications and technology trends. defines the way in which the subsystem must be divided into separate units and/or modules

You are responsible for:

  • Responsible for the team for the creation of the Mechanical Architecture in modular, easy to maintain, and extendible (units and modules), and re-usable.
  • The Mechanical Manager would ensure that the proposed architecture would have the safety and reliability features build in.
  • The Mechanical Manager is responsible for ensuring that architecture meets the performance criteria
  • Carrying out all System Engineering activities of assigned product(s)/product line(s) as per the global system engineering process.
  • Is responsible for the achievement of the technical goal/commitment of a project
  • Analyze customer requests and translate them into technical requirements (requirement engineering)
  • Analyze project ideas regarding realization options; evaluate the impact on running projects
  • Analyze product(s) issues from the field (post-market) and take complete ownership in providing a relevant solution(s)
  • Create technical requirement documentation and be responsible for traceability of requirements at the system level
  • Participate and perform risk analysis according to applicable medical device standards
  • Define system and subsystem architecture under considerations of platform constraints
  • Detects common architectural and functional components in order to enable reuse and maintainability
  • Cooperate and guide business partners/ suppliers on the national/international level
  • Be interface to and take complete ownership in managing the hardware/software deliverable from an internal and external supplier
  • Guide subsystem development teams on system interfacing topics
