Summary/Objective:
As a P&ID/Process engineer in an air separation plant, you will work closely with lead/senior engineers and team members to support the design, optimization, and operation of the plant’s production processes. Your main responsibility will be to ensure the timely completion of all required project deliverables as per the contract. This role offers a great opportunity for professional growth and hands-on experience in process engineering within the cryogenic solutions, support system and air separation industry.

Essential Functional:

- P&ID Creation:
- Create P&IDs according to process and safety requirements.
- Modify and update P&IDs based on the markups given.
- Develop P&IDs from sketches.
- P&ID PART LIST Creation:
- Create a part list for P&IDs.
- Provide descriptions of P&ID parts in Excel or Arev software.
- Specify the parts used in P&IDs.
- ASU WEM end equipment’s specification:
- Prepare specification sheets for heat exchangers.
- Prepare specification sheets for control valves, flow orifices, safety valves, and line sizes.
- Process documentation:
- Prepare line lists, pressure loop tests, and pressure leak tests.
- Prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) if required.
- Prepare and issue technical safety documents, such as HAZOP studies, to address the hazardous operations of a cryogenic gas plant and implement necessary safety measures.
- Prepare the plant operation manual (OMM) that provides comprehensive instructions and guidelines for operating the plant, including startup, normal operations, shutdown procedures, emergency protocols, and safety precautions.
- Prepare the project-specific process description for the control team to facilitate the preparation of control narratives, offering a detailed overview of the plant’s processes, equipment, and control systems.
- Process Simulation:
- Conduct simulations for ASU modules or specific projects.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and energy efficiency improvements.
- Lead or participate in improvement projects to enhance plant performance and reliability.
- Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including maintenance, operations, and quality assurance, to ensure smooth coordination and effective communication.
- Collaborate with vendors and suppliers for equipment selection, procurement, and troubleshooting.
- Authorities:
P&ID Creation:
- Authority to create P&IDs in accordance with established process and safety standards.
- Authority to modify and update existing P&IDs based on feedback or markups.
- Authority to develop P&IDs from sketches, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines.
P&ID Part List Creation:
- Authority to create and manage part lists for P&IDs.
- Authority to Prepare descriptions and specifications of P&ID parts in Excel or Arev software.
ASU WEM End Equipment Specifications:
- Authority to prepare specification sheets for critical equipment, including heat exchangers and control valves.
- Authority to recommend specifications based on operational and safety criteria.
Process Documentation:
- Authority to develop, review, various process documentation, including line lists, pressure loop tests, and pressure leak tests.
- Authority to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed.
- Authority to prepare and issue technical safety documents, such as HAZOP studies, ensuring necessary safety measures are implemented.
- Authority to prepare the plant operation manual (OMM), providing guidelines for plant operations.
- Authority to prepare project-specific process descriptions for the control team, facilitating the development of control narratives.
Competencies
- Proficient in English with good communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word) & PDF
- Proficient in engineering software such as 2D AutoCAD or related software
- Proficient in process engineering software such as ChemCAD
Supervisory Responsibility:
Oversight of P&ID Creation:
- Supervise and review the work of team members involved in creating, modifying, and updating P&IDs to ensure adherence to process and safety standards.
- Ensure that P&IDs are developed accurately from sketches and that any modifications are properly documented.
Management of P&ID Part List Creation:
- Oversee the team responsible for creating and managing part lists for P&IDs.
- Ensure that part descriptions and specifications are accurate and compliant with industry standards.
Supervision of Equipment Specification Preparation:
- Supervise the preparation of specification sheets for ASU WEM end equipment, ensuring that all specifications meet operational and safety criteria.
- Provide guidance and support to team members in the development of these specifications.
Oversight of Process Documentation:
- Supervise the preparation and approval of various process documentation, including line lists, pressure tests, SOPs, and safety documents.
- Ensure that team members follow established protocols and best practices in documentation preparation.
- Review and approve technical safety documents, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Coordination of Process Simulation and Improvements:
- Supervise and provide direction for simulations conducted for ASU modules or specific projects, ensuring that outcomes align with operational goals.
- Guide team members in identifying opportunities for process optimization and improvements in plant performance.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Foster effective communication and collaboration among team members, cross-functional teams, and external vendors or suppliers.
- Ensure that team members coordinate with other departments (e.g., maintenance, operations) to achieve project goals.
Training and Development:
- Provide training and mentorship to team members on P&ID creation, process documentation, and safety procedures.
- Encourage continuous professional development to enhance team capabilities and knowledge.
Performance Monitoring:
- Monitor and evaluate team performance regarding the accuracy and quality of P&IDs, documentation, and specifications.
- Provide feedback and implement corrective actions as necessary to maintain high standards.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary
Qualifications
Education, Experience and Skills:
- A bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering is needed, as well as 0-3 years of experience in the cryogenic gas industry as a process engineer.
- Knowledge of Air Separation Processes: Basic understanding of air separation processes, such as cryogenic distillation, pressure swing adsorption (PSA. Familiarity with the equipment used in air separation plants is advantageous.
- Communication and Teamwork: Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and stakeholders, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Adaptability and Initiative: Willingness to learn, take on new challenges, and contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and operations.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documenting and analyzing process data
Other Duties:
