Job description
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Aerospace Seating Design Engineer to support the design, development, and certification of aircraft passenger seats and related interior components. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in mechanical design, aircraft seating structures, and proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 with a solid understanding of aerospace standards and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop aircraft seating components, including structures, plastics, mechanisms, composites, and trim & finish parts.
- Create 3D models, 2D drawings, assemblies, and installations using CATIA V5/V6.
- Work on concept development, detailed design, tolerance stack-up, GD&T, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Ensure compliance with airworthiness standards (e.g., EASA, FAA, CS-25).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Stress, Certification, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain.
- Participate in DFMEA, DFM/DFA reviews, and engineering change assessments.
- Prepare engineering reports, BOMs, and design documentation as required.
- Support test teams during qualification, validation, and certification phases.
- Coordinate with onsite/offshore design teams and external stakeholders.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
- 3-10 years of experience in aircraft seating design or interior structural components.
- Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 (Part Design, Assembly, Drafting, Generative Shape Design).
- Strong knowledge of aircraft interiors, materials, and manufacturing processes (metallics, composites, plastics).
- Experience working with aircraft OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers (Airbus, Boeing, Safran, Collins, etc.).
- Understanding of certification requirements, including crashworthiness (16G/9G).
- Ability to interpret and apply GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
- Good communication and documentation skills.
Preferred / Good-to-Have
- Experience in aircraft seat mechanism design (recline, track, kinematics).
- Knowledge of PLM systems (Enovia / SmarTeam / Teamcenter).
- Exposure to Stress / FEA basics for design optimization.
- Familiarity with weight optimization and cost-reduction initiatives.
