Job description

Global Design Center is responsible for delivering wide range of Engineered-to-order Mechanical Sealing and Coupling Design services to Global Engineering and various site technical offices across the globe. This position is responsible to deliver varieties of designs through General Arrangement (GAs) and Manufacturing drawings with highest quality standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

What you’ll do –

  • Review, interpret and establish product requirements from customer / DOR / Technical file requisitions
  • To design and release large varieties of Engineered-to-Order Mechanical Sealing and Coupling designs through General Arrangement Drawings (GAs’) and Manufacturing drawings in line with business expectations & targets using 2D/3D CAD techniques / Tools
  • To prepare 3D libraries of Standard Parts where required
  • To maintain timely support and excellent relationships with Site technical offices of respective countries
  • To maintain a consistently high standard of work and maintain delivery schedules
  • Must own compliance to department processes, procedures and company design standards
  • Perform basic Engineering calculations as required using various Engineering tools/calculations
  • Should actively contribute to and promote continuous improvement
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis and ensure agreed Corrective Actions are implemented consistently (ex.8D / RCA)
  • Report performance data along with improvement plans (where applicable) by maintaining high ethical standards

The Individual

What you’ll definitely need –

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 4 to 5 years of experience for Diploma and 2 to 3 years of experience for BE holders in designing and drawing for Engineered-to-Order Mechanical Sealing, Coupling or similar high precision assemblies is most preferred
  • Drive and contribute to maintain a safe & efficient working environment, including following appropriate HSE procedures / performance of risk assessments as appropriate
  • Good Engineering judgement with Sealing Solutions, Couplings or high precision assemblies
  • Strong hands-on skills in Solid Edge 3D Assembly / 3D Part modelling / 2D Draft environments
  • Should have very good application knowledge of Fits and Tolerances and GD&T in Design of precision components
  • Should be committed to very high levels of customer service
  • Must pay attention to details with good analytical skills and be a quick learner
  • Should have good written and spoken skills in English
  • Dedicated team player with well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Experience with CAD Automation programming languages (like VBA) will be an added advantage
  • Experience in CAM software will be an added advantage
  • Manage and report individual workload, forecast own job lead times to meet customer and departmental objectives
  • High-quality performance with Wet Seals, Couplings, and manufacturing drawings will be an added advantage
  • Support safe workplace cultures and compliance with Smiths EH&S
  • Attitude to learn from own and other’s mistakes.
  • Able to plan and prioritize work
  • Able to work under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to work with a systematic approach and adhere to the company’s processes and procedures.
