Job Description: Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Position Summary

The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for the efficient upkeep, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems across the plant, with strong focus on EOT cranes, lifting equipment, and mechanical machinery. The role includes preventive and breakdown maintenance activities, documentation in SAP PM, and coordination with operations to ensure high equipment availability.

Key Responsibilities:-

1. Mechanical Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• • Carry out preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of EOT cranes, including hoist mechanisms, LT/CT drives, brakes, wire ropes, gearboxes, couplings, sheaves, and structural components.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of plant machinery such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, hydraulic systems, and production equipment.
  • Conduct daily condition monitoring: lubrication, alignment, noise/vibration checks, brake adjustment, rope inspection, and limit switch functionality.
  • Execute mechanical repairs and replacements during shutdowns or breakdowns to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Coordinate with OEMs/vendors for major overhauls and critical repairs.

2. SAP PM (Plant Maintenance)

• Create, update, and close Notifications, Work Orders, and PM tasks in SAP.
• Record maintenance history, spare consumption, job completion details, and inspection notes in SAP.
• Review PM Compliance, breakdown analysis, and maintenance KPIs through SAP reports.
• Assist in improving PM plans and equipment master data.

3. Spare Parts & Inventory

• Identify, plan, and request mechanical spares through SAP MM.
• Manage critical spares, including:
  – Wire ropes, brake liners, sheaves
  – Gearbox parts, bearings, couplings
  – LT/CT wheels & mechanical assemblies
• Optimize spare consumption and maintain cost control.

4. Continuous Improvement

• Analyse repeated failures and perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
• Implement improvements for reliability enhancement and maintenance cost reduction.
• Participate in energy-saving initiatives and the modernization of crane systems.

Required Qualifications:-

Education

• Diploma / B.Tech / B.E in Mechanical Engineering.

Experience

• 2–7 years of experience in industrial mechanical maintenance.
• Mandatory: Experience in EOT crane maintenance and SAP PM Module.
• Preferred: Experience in steel, metal, fabrication, or heavy engineering industries.

Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of mechanical systems:
  – Cranes, hoists, gearboxes, brakes, couplings
  – Bearings, alignment, and lubrication systems
• Knowledge of SAP PM processes: Notifications, Work Orders, and PM Plans.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and maintenance manuals.

Soft Skills

• Troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Team coordination and vendor management.
• Written documentation and SAP reporting ability.
