Job Description

Work in a global team as an Individual contributor with significant responsibilities and ownership of mechanical design. The responsibilities include innovative mechanical packaging + mechanism design and development, simulation, prototype fabrication, launch to production, verification and sometime characterization testing. The candidate will be working along with various teams such as simulation, drafting, evaluation, manufacturing, marketing, supply chain etc. Additional responsibilities include technical report generation, mentoring junior engineers, analysis and progress reporting. It is also expected that the candidate would develop technical expertise in the selected product line, develop proposals for new innovations and strive for continuously improving the responsible product lines.

Job Expectation

  • Mechanical packaging with different parts and sub-assembly to form a product by meeting customer requirements
  • Strong Fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering and exposure to Electrical + mechanical part and mechanism design.
  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills. Interacts with project team members and peers to anticipate and resolve day to day issues.
  • Experience analyzing and selecting materials & finishes for optimizing design parameters.
  • Have a strong understanding on different manufacturing processes like plastic injection molding, metal parts machining, casting, sheet metal process, joining methodologies (crimpling, welding, brazing, soldering) and encapsulation methodologies. Basic knowledge in Drafting Standards especially ASME 14.5M
  • Expertise in 3D modeling and parametric detailing, family tables. Expertise in using CAD package SolidWorks®.
  • Exposure and experience in Value Engineering/component engineering methodologies, with experience in tear down analysis and reporting
  • Expertise in Six Sigma methodology and statistical analysis and proven track record applying this in prior designs.
  • Experience on GD&T, Design for Manufacturability and Assembly, & Design to Cost
  • Fundamental knowledge of major electrical parts and systems, is an added advantage/skill set
  • Predict, quantify & Mitigate technical risks in the product design. Expertise in developing DFMEA, PFMEA , control plan and process flow chart
  • Exposure to handling engineering change request and engineering change order. Experience in Oracle and MRP tool will be added advantage
  • Conceptualize the product and translate the requirements into CTQs for design
  • Exposure to full design life cycle in New product development
  • Prior experience in cooperatively working with remote/global team on new product development efforts.
  • Knowledge on Material handling equipment design would be added advantage

Job description

  • This position will have the lead responsibility for executing NPI projects, VE/CE activities, Design to Manufacturing Transfer, implement new processes and support existing processes for newly acquired Intelligrated Company. Intelligrated is single-source provider of intelligent automated material handling solutions that drive fulfillment productivity for retailers, manufacturers and logistics providers around the world.
  • The ideal applicant would have an in-depth knowledge in mechanical design of material handling equipment, manufacturing processes and excellent process design and development skills. Global manufacturing experience is desired and limited International travel will be required. This position is intended to be based out of Bangalore.

Responsibility

  • Primary responsibility will be Mechanical design and development for the material handling equipment, understanding the applications and work closely with design team in developing product & process concepts to meet customer needs, define process & equipment

Specification

  • Extensive collaboration with global S&C ISC stakeholders in setting- up and proving out the production processes at factory locations at China, Mexico, and USA. Develop Process Map, PFMEA, assembly fixture/tooling concepts, and other process documents for parts, assemblies, and finished products.
  • Create equipment specifications for new sensor/controls designs and collaborate with a cross-functional teams to build and implement production equipment.
  • Establish assembly/process variables for Critical to Quality requirements
  • Lead the overall test strategy for the product to meet yield and PPM requirements
  • Estimate product recurring make cost, non-recurring expense and capital cost
  • Support builds for DV (design verification/validation), PV (product verification/validation), and initial production for PPAP
  • Support PPAP development or execution with Quality and SQE resources
  • Production Line qualification through capability analysis, MSA, including process qualification for part fabrication, sub-assy., or assy. processes
  • Facilitate Design to Manufacturing Transfer including supplier readiness (tech resource to Sourcing) and internal plant mfg readiness (coordinate with Mfg Eng)
  • Drive DFX (Manufacturing and Sourcing) including gathering lessons learned inputs from across factory manufacturing teams
  • Support Mfg Readiness Level evaluations for programs throughout NPI phases and drive Mfg Readiness to phase gate expectations
  • Develop Value stream map (key suppliers, inventory, internal mfg, customer locations) incl. inputs from Project team
  • Ensure compliance to goal for product cost, process yield, and manufacturing readiness schedule execution throughout NPI cycle
  • Utilize technical process expertise and six sigma tools (e.g. DOE’s) to lead process development for NPI parts, assembly process
  • Travel to internal and supplier sites to support process development efforts and issue resolution with upto 20% duration of travel, including International
  • Identify and drive improvement on systematic issues in New Product Development/ New Product Introduction activities
  • Highlight any risk that may have impact on delivery schedule, financial, performance, quality and reliability goals

Basic Qualifications

  • A bachelor degree in mechanical engineering or similar field is required with overall mfg experience of minimum 10 years of which at least 6 years of proven experience in product manufacturing or process development
  • Having a project execution and product launch experience in factory is desired.

Additional Qualifications

  • Hand on Experience with high volume manufacturing and new product introduction.
  • Working knowledge of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and TS16949. Six-Sigma Greenbelt trained/certified is desired. Black belt or Lean expert would be plus.
  • Proficient with Pro-Engineer or any other CAD software (for manipulating part drawings, creating tooling concepts, fixture design and development) is expected.
  • Position Sensors manufacturing process knowledge would be an added advantage. Familiarity with Plastic molding, Metal forming, joining processes, understanding of electrical and mechanical control for automated manufacturing equipment, linear and rotational mechanisms, pneumatics are expected.
  • Specific skills in terms of metal joining, plastic joining, potting & encapsulation are necessary. Understanding of tooling, jigs and fixtures design knowledge.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions using process control tools such as FMEA, PMAP, Cpk Analysis.
  • Experience working with material properties, metals, soldering, printing/marking, and manual assembly processes.
  • Global manufacturing experience working Ability to create cost analyses and trade-off studies. Ability to identify and deploy process improvements.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate project status and program needs across different levels of the organization and different operating environments
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills in a team environment demonstrating influence across many functions
  • Willingness to work in flex hours for meeting with teams in USA, AP region and domestic or international travel as needed.
