Job Description Summary

Responsible to drive and lead the technical excellence in the design, cost and reliability of simple retrofit and standardized small turbines. Responsible to perform the design of hydraulic turbines in the different phases of a project, starting with support to turbine tendering team, passing through the basic design stage up to commissioning of the unit. Among the main responsibilities is included the basic and detail design analysis and project follow up, support to manufacturing in GE’s shop and with our suppliers, commissioning and acceptance testing of the units on site.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for turbine simple retrofit and standardized small hydro design as main product engineer;
  • Knowledge of turbine components basic design, analytical structural analysis, manufacturing, refurbishment technologies and non-destructive test methodologies and results interpretation;
  • Capacity to interpret and understand old non-O&M design and translate and adapt GE Hydro technology to the project requirements;
  • Prioritize, plan and execute tasks when executing own work packages for multiple projects in parallel;
  • Responsible for developing, verify, approve and control the technical documents such as drawings, bill of materials, technical specifications, manuals and other contractual technical documents as necessary applying GE and industry processes and standards;
  • Manage and lead design cross-functional reviews (conceptual, basic and detail);
  • Responsible for analyzing qualitative and quantitative technical and commercial information on the project, including technical specifications, proposals, reference designs, and other sources of information necessary for the preparation of the project to comply with such requirements;
  • Able to support fleet support team in transactional services, in order to allow good permeability between center of excellence and fleet support engineers;
  • Support engineering tendering team in the elaboration of proposals and technical specifications development, as necessary;
  • For small hydro design, ensure that defined standard turbine solution and parametric tool is used to meet aggressive schedule, product cost and reliability targets is applied in the standard projects;
  • Work cross-functionally with manufacturing engineers, quality team, sourcing, suppliers, construction and commissioning team to improve product quality and first time yield;
  • Support manufacturing, sourcing and construction and commissioning to problem resolution defining necessary corrective plan inside the business metrics;
  • Drive complete technical root cause analysis of failures to identify necessary preventive actions in order to avoid issue recurrence;
  • Drive lessons learned, best practices and standardization into drawings, specifications, design practices and processes;
  • Identify and execute continuous improvement, cost saving ideas and strategies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering;
    • At least 2 years’ experience in Hydro Industry, ideally component/system engineering or process engineering;
  • Skilled in CAD software (NX) and RLPM system
  • Good mechanical engineering background is fundamental;
    • Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries;
    • Analytical and problem solving skills; ability to assess situations and make judgements basedon practice or previous experience;
    • Structured and independent working style;
    • Good planning and organizational skills, good communication and negotiation capabilities ableto interface effectively with other global organizations and external customers;
    • Ability to deliver results in an uncertainty scenario.

  • General Knowledge of others Hydro products as Generator, P&S, Hydromechanical;
  • Exposure working in a manufacturing and/or assembly facility;
  • Exposure to working with suppliers, OEMs or customers;
