Job Description Summary
Within the GE Renewable Energy Business, the Hydro market is expected to grow in the comings years especially in the medium/small, service and digital markets. Hydro has today a global industrial footprint in Europe, China, India, North-America and Latin America. The addition of Hydro will complement the existing GE energy portfolio, helping to build a leading GE Renewable Energy.
In the Center of excellence responsible for special calculations and tool development the candidate will be the responsible for performing complex Finite element based calculations for rotating machine & to build analytical calculation programs for large Hydro Turbine. He/she works for the development and the documentation of mechanical calculation programs. He/she supports actively the implementation of new calculation tools in the Business Units and decides according to the process manual. He/she will also maintain old tools
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- To understand and take forward the hydro calculation methodologies.
- Execute and validate the critical hydro components of the project based on a finite element analysis approach
- Depending on the requirement to perform various FEA calculations like Linear & nonlinear static structural calculation, Fatigue assessments, modal analysis, dynamic calculations like harmonic response analysis, etc. At times it will be required to perform fracture mechanics calculations as well.
- To perform the FEA postprocessing following standards applicable to hydro like ASME, FKM, Eurocode etc
- To deliver high-quality calculation output in a defined timeline and budget
- Develop calculation programs and theory behind the mechanical calculation of turbine/Generator components
- Performs analytical and complex calculations with the internal tool or with commercial tools (Ansys), in order to support other functions or to validate the tools
- Supports the implementation of new calculation tools in the Business Units with an open-minded product approach
- Follows up the state of the art in programming and new calculation methods for rotating machines in order to implement in the internal tool
- Maintains mechanical calculation programs
- Provides strong technical support to the Business Units for their daily business (technical reports)
- Information and feedback to other parties in the process
- Participates to internal and external transfer of technology
Qualifications/Requirements
- Mechanical Engineer, preferably Masters
- Deep knowledge of the theory of mechanical calculation
- Have strong know-how of Structural Mechanics and Finite element concepts
- Have experience with a Finite element tool preferably Ansys.
- Experience with a modeling tool like NX.
- Team player
- Ability to work in a global organization with a lot of interactions with other teams
- Fluent in English
- Knowledge of object-oriented programming ideally C, C++, Python, and Fortran is an added advantage
- Knowledge of rotating machines is an advantage
