Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical engineering
  • 6+ years of experience in mechanical design especially on gears or gearbox design
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in gear/gearbox design
  • In-depth Knowledge of Power Plant and Gas Turbine accessories required
  • Good understanding of cost and performance drivers
  • Attitude to respond with a sense of urgency to the site and customer issues and queries

Position – Acoustics and Enclosure Lead Engineer

This role will be a combination of acoustics and enclosure mechanical design responsibilities. The role will span from supporting and leading requisition activities related to enclosure and acoustics to supporting NPI, ITO and site issues on both these areas.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The Acoustics and Enclosure Lead Engineer will lead Acoustics purpose on systems, covering inlet, exhaust, enclosure, accessories for assigned frames.This role will be working on the following:
  • Point of contact with Application Engineer Acoustics team to discuss and reflect acoustic project request on PAE components,
  • ITO support for acoustic on PAE components.
  • The role will perform needed acoustic calculation to define design impact on our components with item owners to fulfill project or standard requests.

In addition, the engineer will own enclosure MLIs for assigned frames. In this role, he will be responsible for:

  • The Mechanical Engineer for Enclosure & Accessories Systems will work on design and development of GE Heavy duty Gas Turbine (GT) Enclosure & Accessories systems, covering frame 6B, 6F, 7H, 9F, 9H. This role will work on new development, requisition delivery and site issues support. This role will work on calculation on structures and design in Enclosure & Accessories systems. Enclosure Ventilation system & others as appropriate for all stages of the life cycle of the product starting from ITO to field issue resolution.
  • Design and development, including cost reduction activities
  • arrangement drawings and layouts, piping and instrumentation diagrams and datasheets.
  • proficiency in using tools like, ANSYS- Structural, STAAD etc to develop and validate the designs
  • Activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components
  • Supporting ITO, Sourcing, field and customer requests.
  • Responsible for Requisition execution in line with scheduled activities.
  • Autonomous role focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures.

He/she will be responsible for system level trades and decisions, contribution to and approval of requirements (through DMs) and customer facing technical documents, and direct contributions to projects as a system engineer. He/she will provide technical guidance and team support on product and program definition, as well as contributing to continuous improvement in product development processes from conceptualization to validation and certification.

-Provide wind turbine system expertise through all phases of product development, from requirements definition through design and development, validation and product life-cycle support-

Lead and/or oversee system conceptual design studies and trade-offs that address product CTQs such as cost, power performance, noise, reliability & operability

  • Contribute to and approve system requirements (through Design Memos)-Contribute to and approve customer facing technical documents

-Responsible for complex assignments with long-term business implications, impacting the products’ technical success-

Establish design strategies, contribute to multi-generation system and technology plans in conjunction with Platform and Sub-system Managers-Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through analysis, preparation and presentation of technical material to internal and external audiences

  • Contribute to new and revised design practices
  • Demonstrate effective risk mitigation and technical problem solving-Drive simplification and standardization of best practices into engineering analyses, validation, and design execution
  • Drive implementation of control technologies to mitigate mechanical loads & improve turbine power performance targeting LCOE reduction.

-Drive simplification in managing high variability of Onshore LC platforms targeting multiple regions, regarding design, validation and certifications. -Collaborate with wind farm engineering team and provide solutions to enhance application space.

  • Work closely with the Controlled Tittle Holders community across the business and global team members to ensure high quality and consistency on systems design and trade off decisions.

Qualifications/Requirements :

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university in Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience working on wind turbine system-related projects, issues and/or technologies.
  • System or product-level mindset and experience in simultaneous engineering new product development processes.-Effective problem identification and solving ability.
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional and global environment-Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, leading and influencing skills and a positive energy-Expert knowledge on wind turbine component design criteria and wind turbine systems integration

  • Executing the thermal sizing of products,
  • Responsible for the technical content of calculations for thermal equipment sizing, as well as checking documentation and notes sent to clients,
  • Executing the analytical mechanical calculations (pre-sizing of products) and numerical calculations (vibration calculation …),
  • Participating to the design (thermal and mechanical) taking into account client specifications and directives,
  • internal guidelines, design instructions, input data and conception rules,
  • Working in interface with Mechanical engineering team and Manufacturing quality team for design
  • optimization,
  • Providing proposals for design improvement and cost reduction.
  • Understand the fundamental physical phenomena and mechanisms and their interactions in/around a power plant heat exchanger
  • Define rule based envelopes of key operating parameters for tendering and order execution to make the best usage of the GE heat exchanger technology
  • Reduce variability of design parameters within defined envelopes following a principle of improving competitiveness (e.g. reducing first cost, reducing cost for poor quality etc.)
  • Define, issue and maintain a set of frozen design documents (know-how documentation) per product with enough flexibility to provide value to customer
  • Re-define, support development & maintain necessary design tools for all kind of heat exchangers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors / Masters in Mechanical Engineering preferably with specialization in heat transfer, thermodynamics
  • Fluent in English
  • 8+ years of experience in Power Plant Engineering or heat exchanger design
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Heat Exchanger Engineering activities
  • Knowledge of heat exchangers, as well in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, in drawing reading and checking
  • Good understanding of cost and performance drivers
  • Good communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of pressure vessels codes & mechanical Engineering
