Location – Bengaluru, Karnataka, IN

Job description

The person is responsible for running Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for Turbocharger systems and components using the ANSYS suite of simulation software like ANSYS Workbench. Along with that, he/she is expected to work on digital validation through FEA of Garrett’s new growth vectors like Traction Motors, Fuel Cell systems & components, etc. The role requires end-to-end ownership of thermal and structural FEA simulations including investigating thermo-mechanical fatigue (TMF) type of failures and suggesting design alternates. The person shall closely interact with application engineering teams on a daily basis to fine-tune simulation inputs and also explain simulation results. He/she should necessarily possess good knowledge of the fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering, especially in the areas of Machine Design, Mechanics of Solids, Thermodynamics, materials, numerical methods, etc.

Key Job Areas of Responsibilities
  • Responsible for running FEA simulation on turbocharger systems and components- primarily thermal, structural, and vibration analyses using ANSYS suite of simulation software like ANSYS Workbench. The products/components may extend to some of Garrett’s New Growth Vectors like Traction Motors, Electric Boosting, Fuel Cell systems, Controllers, etc.
  • Knowledge of Thermo-Mechanical Fatigue (TMF) type of failures is a must. He/she should be able to assist in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of component/system failures through the use of post-processing tools in ANSYS. He/she shall suggest suitable design alternates for a design issue detected in the FEA simulation.
  • The person should be well conversant with Mechanical Engineering fundamentals in the areas of Machine Design, Mechanics of Solids, Materials, manufacturing processes, Thermodynamics, etc.
  • The role requires frequent interaction with cross-functional teams consisting of Product Development/customer teams, Materials & Structures experts (M&S), peers of the Structures & Fatigue team (S&F), Product Quality (Product Assurance), etc.
  • The person should work with customer teams to understand “what” is required of the simulation. He/she shall work with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) team to get the inputs to run the FEA analysis. Depending on the availability of simulation results he/she shall participate in Technical Reviews with customer teams.
  • The person is expected to work closely with the M&S team to develop new FEA simulation methodologies, automation tools, material characterization, etc.
  • The person shall follow Garrett’s set FEA processes/tools to run simulations to have consistent and reliable results. Ability to understand the automotive product development process (NPI- New Product Introduction) is a necessary skill for this role. He/she is required to apply Knowledge Management through the use of Garrett’s in-house tools (WRS- Work Request System)
Education / Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. M.Tech from premier institutes is a plus.
