Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

Position Overview

The Engineer will learn and utilize specialized software, SYNAOS, for AGV/AMR programming and simulation to enhance Ford’s material flow processes. After completing hands-on training, the Engineer will work on simulation model development, AMR utilization studies, stockout analysis, and various “What If” scenario assessments. The role focuses on refining simulation processes to maximize efficiency, quality, and value in material flow simulation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Simulation Modeling: Build material flow models for AMR simulations and CFMS programming.
  • Utilization & Analysis: Conduct AMR utilization and stockout analyses.
  • Scenario Assessments: Perform “What If” studies, including preparing clarification sheets and estimating delivery times for the Ford MFE team.
  • Data Management: Maintain MFE-specified DRIM structure for storing inputs, models, and drawings, and submit data files to Ford’s MP&L team as required.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously improve the simulation model, reduce non-value-added activities, and enhance turnaround time and quality.
  • Documentation: Capture lessons learned in a structured repository.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Automotive, Mechanical, or a related Engineering field.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in material flow simulation, particularly for autonomous mobile robots or similar systems.
  • Software Knowledge: Proficiency in FlexSim, PlantSim, or equivalent discrete event simulation (DES) software.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong programming skills in C++, Python, or ROS (Robot Operating System).
  • Basic industrial engineering knowledge of material flow and manufacturing is preferred.
  • Troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, and an eye for process improvement.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively.

Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with sensor integration (LiDAR, cameras) and data processing.
  • Understanding of navigation algorithms, path planning, and localization techniques.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation systems and protocols (e.g., PLC, Ethernet/IP).
