Position Summary

Flex is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer – Sheetmetal to join the team in Coimbatore/Chennai. This role focuses on optimizing sheet metal manufacturing processes, creating work instructions, and ensuring efficient product designs. The ideal candidate will work with global customers and internal teams to deliver innovative and efficient solutions in the sheet metal design and production space.

Responsibilities:

1. Process Analysis & Documentation:
   • Analyze sheet metal CAD models to create process flows.
   • Develop work instructions and assembly processes based on 3D files.
   • Document process parameters for manufacturing.
2. Sheetmetal Expertise:
   • Proficiency in cutting, punching, bending, forming, and assembling of sheet metal.
   • Expertise in managing different mechanical design files (Geometry cleanup, DVP, conversion) using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
   • Engage with global customers to understand requirements and deliver tailored solutions.
   • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to define product performance metrics.
4. Design and Manufacturing:
   • Design and develop fixtures and gauges for sheet metal production.
   • Work with the team to improve existing designs or processes, ensuring accuracy intolerances.
5. Continuous Improvement:
   • Implement continuous process improvement methodologies such as Kanban and Lean manufacturing.
   • Perform root cause analysis to resolve issues in design or production.
   • Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) operations to bring new designs to life.
6. Technical Knowledge:
   • Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), PFMEA, and fabrication processes.
   • Experience with PLM/PDM systems.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Education:
  • BE/B. Tech in Mechanical, Automotive, or Production Engineering, or Diploma in Mechanical/Automotive.
  • A Diploma in Tool and Die Making is an added advantage.
• Experience:
  • 4-12 years of experience in sheet metal design and manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience in SolidWorks, Cre-O, or AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge in the design of rack cabins, enclosures, and related sheet metal products.
  • Fixture and gauge design experience for production processes.
• Competencies:
  • Strong analytical skills and logical thinking.
  • Effective communication skills in English (written and verbal).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Experience in Continuous Process Improvement, Kanban, and Lean manufacturing.
