Job Summary

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and execute Value Analysis projects related to Heavy Duty, Medium Duty transmission components with end-to-end ownership. This includes assessing the technical and commercial feasibility of engineering projects, design, development, and validation testing of the components. The applicant needs to demonstrate end-to-end ownership and execute projects in a timely manner with quality deliverables. This calls for collaboration with global cross-functional team members like reliability, supply chain, project management, test lab, PPAP, and manufacturing plant across various regions. The applicant should have sound analytical skills to leverage analysis first approach/hand calculations to reduce verification testing. Must have hands-on knowledge of design for six sigma principles such as DFMEA, DVP, etc. to identify and mitigate technical risks at an early stage of product development to develop robust products that meet customer requirements and specifications.

Apart from project execution, VAVE Engineers are also expected to generate cost-out ideas on various transmission products and get business approval for them against predefined cost-saving idea generation goals. Contribution towards intellectual property (Patents and disclosures) and representing the organization in technical conferences are also integral parts of VAVE Engineer role.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement Value Analysis related engineering projects for Eaton Transmission products right from concept to product design, product build, validation testing, and its implementation for relatively low and medium-complex component-level projects.
  • Generate new ideas that are technically and commercially viable for the Eaton Transmission/clutch portfolio to reduce the overall cost of the products and be competitive in the market.
  • Leverage DFSS methodologies like DOE, P-Dia, DFMEA, DVP, ANOVA, Monte Carlo, etc to identify technical risks at an early stage of product development and develop a robust product that meets customer requirements and specifications
  • Fosters New patents/disclosures while working on New Product development, VAVE, and problem-solving projects.
  • Demonstrate and leverage the knowledge of engineering fundamentals and analytical skills to leverage analysis first approach to reduce verification testing and in turn, enhance realized savings of the projects
  • Perform assembly stack-up & tolerance stack-up analysis to do design optimization
  • Apply knowledge of GD&T and work on the Enovia environment to release the CAD/drawings
  • Closely work with the PM team to Ensure the timely achievement of project milestones
  • Closely work with suppliers to resolve manufacturing issues/improve capability. Perform Capability analysis & MSA to provide recommendations.

  • ME/ M Tech, BE/B Tech.

Years and area of experience required:

  • 0-1 year / 3-5 Years.
Technical knowledge:
  • Vehicle industry exposure and experience.
  • Knowledge of Value Engineering principles & their deployment
  • Powertrain engineering experience. Good analytical skills in mechanical disciplines. In-depth knowledge of various truck transmissions, gear, bearing & spline, casting, forgings, stamping, etc. Work & interact with the global cross-functional and cross-cultural team. Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to clearly communicate with internal/external customers and suppliers. Experience with CAD, FEA, CFD, Thermal, Vibration, and Critical Speed analysis. Design knowledge of lubrication and system integration. Minitab knowledge is preferable
Soft skills:
  • Good Communication & articulation skills, Presentation to senior leadership
