Job description
What you’ll do:
This role focuses on Sustaining Engineering (SE) for GEIS commercial products, including cable trays, wiring management systems, mechanical fittings, gratings, pipe hangers, and seismic bracing—products designed to serve both national and international markets. Key responsibilities include identifying and executing sustaining initiatives, supporting manufacturing plants, addressing customer queries, supporting cost & performance improvements through Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE), and NPI initiatives for growth of business.
The position demands strong communication skills, technical knowledge, and enthusiasm for product design. Responsibilities also include ensuring compliance with global design standards such as IEC, UL, NEMA, and other applicable regulations. A solid understanding of industry requirements is essential, along with the ability to perform complete system and component sizing, desig,n and testing activities to meet GEIS commercial product specifications, primarily for the U.S. market.
- Work in multiple programs/projects related to SE to achieve the business goals and Profit Plan objectives.
- Own end to end SE projects and deliverables, including product conceptualization, detailing, design validation & testing of products.
- Collaborate with cross-functional/ multi-disciplinary teams in making engineering decisions required for successful project execution.
- Designs, validates, and releases systems, sub-systems, and components independently as well as through a team of engineers. Develop CAD drawings, detailed 3D models, and assemblies, ensuring timely release in PLM/ERP systems as per project plans.
- Contribute to creating test plans in accordance with IEC/UL standards. Create test object requirements, plan for assembly, and finalize test parameters & instrumentation. Responsible for conducting tests by ensuring the deployment of standard practices.
- Partner with leads to create Intellectual Property documents (IPs) around new product design concepts/ideas.
Qualifications:
BE / M.tech – Mechanical Engineering
0-3 yrs. Product Design
Sheet metal experience or knowledge is needed.
Skills:
- Have a good technical knowledge and experience in design and development of Mechanical products like sheet metal products (preferred), cast/machined products, plastic products, and relevant desing practices and standards.
- Strong hands-on experience in creating part detailing and designing, drawing creation, 3D modeling of parts/assemblies, 2D drawings, tolerance of parts, prototyping, and validation
- Solid understanding on design parameter selection, stresses, fatigue life, component fits, and establishing efficient/ergonomic methods of assembly, Design calculations.
- Should be aware of GD&T, DFMEA, DFMA, Product Life cycle, & Engg. change management process.
- Should have good knowledge on different product design tools environment like CAD, Solid works, SAP.
- An understanding of GEIS Commercial products would be an added advantage
