As an Associate Engineer, the incumbent will be working on Rigid Frame Trucks’ large structures design & Factory support. Incumbent will be responsible for Built-in Quality and provide Engineering support to the fabrication production line in Caterpillar India Thiruvallur facility. He/She will have an opportunity to work closely with the factory and represent the Engineering Team to downstream partners for Production & Build support (NPI/Assembly/NSI/AQEs/CPI implementation) by partnering with global teams. Incumbent will also contribute to global projects, continually learn, and stay abreast of innovative technology. He/she will have chance to contribute to the concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems or processes. He/she will be involved in the regional/global supplier development, build support and aftermarket/mine site services.
Skills/Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Strong knowledge in Caterpillar fabrication/forging/casting manufacturing process and quality criteria
- Good understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, engineering drawings, manufacturing processes, Bill of Materials and Engineering change management processes.
- Sound knowledge in engineering fundamentals, drawing reading, GD&T, CMM audit, UT weld inspection.
- Good knowledge on Part and assembly Modelling and drawing generation. Proficient in the use of CREO & Team CENTER Engineering
- Provides creative and innovative solutions to complex engineering problems in areas of design, mechanical analysis, and supports Engineering decision-making.
- Perform design verification through hand calculations and advanced methods in Creo & WDAT.
- Research new technology and evaluate new products, processes, or systems.
- Effectively apply design-related Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) steps & DFMEA process.
- Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units. Actively support prototype, pilot, or production build and perform audit.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering curriculum (or equivalent)
- 2+ years of job-related experience
- Good leadership, communication, interpersonal, Strong analytical and collaboration skills.
- Emphasis on initiative and self-starting tasks
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
- Prior experience in Fabrication, Manufacturing & Quality.
- Knowledge of design for manufacturability, mining machines products and manufacturing process.
- Experience in end-to-end product development including collaboration with manufacturing, testing, and product support teams
- Exceptional ability to perform complex design and analysis tasks using mathematical/theoretical model & FEA (preferred with Creo simulate)
