WHAT YOU’LL DO
As a Research Associate within BCG’s Data and Research Service (DRS) function, you will work on complex research projects independently within our Industrial Goods practice area. You will proactively understand the context of the research ask and deliver actionable insights for BCG’s case proposals, ongoing cases, and business or internal development initiatives. You will demonstrate a deep understanding of the Practice Area to BCG’s Case and Knowledge teams. You will specialize in 1-2 topics and research areas of focus within the Automotive and Engineered Products sectors based on a mix of research interests and/or case exposures, which will help you provide value-added research support to our Case and Knowledge teams.
BCG’s Industrial Goods practice serves three broad industrial segments: Automotive & Mobility, Greentech & Engineered Products, and Materials & Process Industries. The automotive sector focuses on auto OEMs, parts & components suppliers, retail & aftermarket, new mobility & tech, and commercial vehicle segments. The Greentech & Engineered Products sector focuses on machinery & components, industrial automation, building technology, and off-highway equipment. Materials and process Industries comprise multiple sub-sectors including Chemicals, Agribusiness, Metals and mining, Building Materials, and Forest Products, Paper and packaging (FPP). As part of the DRS – Industrial Goods team, we help clients think beyond the limits of their traditional business models, choose where and how they should add value, and reorganize to defend themselves against new threats and exploit new opportunities.
YOU’RE GOOD AT
Ensuring consistent high-quality research outputs
- You will ensure complete and error-free delivery of research requests
- Gain expertise in leveraging a wide range of research resources, information portals, and approaches in delivering research outputs
- Demonstrate your ability to synthesize (draw insight/conclusion) and package research output that directly addresses the problem in a clear and structured way
- Opportunistically contribute to BCG publications and knowledge materials; in partnership with RAs/SRAs
Developing and demonstrating ‘client-responsiveness’
- Develop capabilities to understand and anticipate case team research needs (understanding case-team asks, client contexts, etc. to tailor research accordingly). Continuously engage with RAs and SRAs to discuss the same
- Demonstrate speed-to-output and client-orientation in delivery (improving on effectiveness in research completion)
- Strong ownership and ability to manage (ability to identify priority) multiple requests at the same time
- Focus on customer satisfaction as the primary goal
YOU BRING (EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS)
- 6-12 months of relevant research industry experience, in industrial goods topics, preferably in automotive or machinery-related sectors
- Graduate degree in mechanical engineering; Master’s degree will be a plus
- Knowledge of industry-specific databases such as Capital IQ, EMIS, Refinitiv, SIAM, Vahan, etc. is desirable
- Excellent English; verbal and written
- Ability to work with wide-array of office applications including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word; to be able to provide insights in the most user-friendly format

The Data and Research Services (DRS) function is a dynamic and highly visible center of excellence focused on business research and process innovation. We collaborate with our consulting teams to bring advanced research capabilities to support projects and clients. DRS provides specialist research services to consulting teams and our Knowledge Team, taking deep pride in delivering rapid and precise results.
DRS works with both qualitative and quantitative data, conducting research and providing synthesized results from over 100 commercial sources, publicly available data, company and industry research, macro-economic, commodities and trade data.
