Job description
- Within his/her technical scope, the mechanical architect is responsible for the vehicle zone arrangement definition and the management of the mechanical interface across the Product Family (PF). He is reporting to the Product Family lead mechanical architect.
- Ensuring that requirements, resulting from functional architecture analysis and affecting vehicle mechanical architecture, are implemented in the design
- Defining vehicles arrangement, their related layouts and volume allocations for the main sub-systems
- Defining a mechanical architecture to comply with vehicle performance requirements such as acoustics and vibration, aerodynamics, industrial design, and passenger flow, human factors and ergonomics, passenger and crew evacuation, vehicle gauging, vehicle dynamics, weight, etc. …
- Leading mechanical concept definition with the aim of harmonizing architectures on Product Family
- Managing variability of the design with standardization and modular approach
- Leading to converge on subsystems mechanical interfaces design on the vehicle
- Ensuring compliance with Center of Expertise (CoE) directives, with Metier guidelines and with PF directives
- Perform the vehicle concept definition in his/her functional and technical scope
- Ensure the execution of mechanical architecture according to Product Family roadmap
- Capture and understand the Product Family requirements and ensure consistent application
- Review and approve mechanical architecture deliveries of the Product Family
- Lead the governance of mechanical interfaces maturity on his/her Product Family and ensure the zone review methodology is well deployed
- Adopt a functional view and a system engineering approach in his/her product development
- Assure standardization and harmonization within Product Family
- Reuse building blocks, solutions, guidelines and tools from the CoE mechanical architecture library
- Ensure a modular approach for mechanical design to manage Product Family variability
- Align the change management around the configuration baseline strategy of his/her Product Family
- Deliver activities at QCT targets
- Ensure a risk assessment on his/her activities
- Attend design reviews and verify requirements implementation
- Assure solutions quality, in the sense of “state of the art”
- Incorporate lessons learned in continuous improvement
- Define and document best practices for mechanical architecture
Qualifications
- Bachelors or master’s degree in mechanical engineering
- Relevant experience required
- Minimum of 5 years engineering experience in a Railway domain
- Very good working experience in an international environment
- Experience of working across many different disciplines
- Evidence of having successfully undertaken a significant technical role.
- Experience of coordinating cross functions
- Technical expertise regarding mechanical engineering
- Requirement management and functional analysis
