Position – Airport Special Systems Manager (Engineering)

Job description

  • Plans and conducts independent work within a global business unit requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for Airport Special Systems.
  • The special systems manager will be expected to exercise Interface management and define performance specifications for the design of the active data and voice networking; video surveillance, access control, public address, data centers;
  • All forms of surveillance and intrusion detection; airport operational systems such as passenger processing and resource allocation; dynamic wayfinding; aircraft auto-docking; foreign object debris (FOD) detection; non-NAVAID airfield sensor systems; licensed and unlicensed wireless; baggage handling systems;
  • Centralized building management system, fire alarm and detection system, structured cabling, immigration equipment and computer systems, security screening systems, and car park management systems and integration of these into airport command and control infrastructure at an International Airport.
  • Supports project proposal activities, FEED, Engineering, and Construction phase of the project. Devises new approaches to solving problems. Reports directly to the Head Program Manager/Design Manager and will work within a team of aviation-related disciplines.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

  • Technical knowledge of modern state-of-the-art SPECIAL SYSTEMS, Management, scheduling, and coordination of design and construction, preferably on large airport projects including broad knowledge of precedents in the aviation industry.
  • Broad working knowledge of precedents in the specialty area, the principles, and practices of related technical areas, and of coordinating work with other technical disciplines.
    Knowledge of Interface Management and the management of the system to civil and system to system interfaces.
  • Thorough knowledge of Airport Special Systems including active data and voice networking; video surveillance, access control, public address, data centers; all forms of surveillance and intrusion detection; airport operational systems such as passenger processing and resource allocation; dynamic wayfinding; aircraft auto-docking; foreign object debris (FOD) detection; non-NAVAID airfield sensor systems; licensed and unlicensed wireless; baggage handling systems; centralized building management system, fire alarm and detection system, structured cabling, immigration equipment and computer systems, security screening systems, and car park management systems and integration of these into airport command and control infrastructure.
  • Work closely with other Specialists and the Fiber Optic Engineer to ensure Local Area Network provisions and Telecommunications Distribution System cabling is provided for systems.
  • Fully conversant in developing detailed System Architecture drawings using BACnet Protocol.
  • Fully conversant with Code requirements of ASHRAE – 135-2016 for BACnet-A Data Communication Protocol for Building Automation and Control Networks.
  • Preparation of Functional Design Specification and Software Design Specification of various management systems.
  • Loading and Checking of System Configurations of Vendors.
  • Network Management functions for all BACnet devices.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard integrations with third-party mechanical & electrical sub-systems.
  • Develop FAT and Site Acceptance Test Procedures.
  • Understands the application of engineering procedures, relevant design guides. Broad knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design including appropriate knowledge of CAD (both 2-D and 3-D), and relevant Standard Computer Applications to perform the work.
  • Understanding of engineering planning and control methods including computerized methods.
  • Understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including basic construction practices and the economics involved.
  • Understanding of industry or regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the engineering discipline.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Has demonstrated skill in supervision in a Lead position for a minimum of 10 years.
